Interesting. And what salaries and players are the Leafs expecting to shed if they are going to add another $9m salary to their cap? |

Cody Ceci is only a consolation prize if he comes in at 1 million or less. He's not good(by NHL standards). No way he's worth top 4 money. Look up just about any article on this guy and it's fairly clear he drags down every partner he's put with. The only thing he has going for him is that he is a RD. If he's paid like a 6th-7th D, then fine. |

didn't even realize he's already back to the BS.
i take it all the GMs in the league are in some sort of frenzy about making tons of deals for stupid reasons that don't make sense realistically or financially? |

I thought you had a strict policy on putting up rumors about players still in the playoffs...Are you no longer worried about the distraction and stress your blogs might cause? I would hate to see a player not perform to their potential because all they can think about is the rumor that popped up about them on hockeybuzz. I know it's a very different year, so maybe you cleared this with the league office to ensure the high standard of journalism that this site is known for. |

Interesting. And what salaries and players are the Leafs expecting to shed if they are going to add another $9m salary to their cap?
With their current cap expenditure for next season. The Leafs are looking at $54M for 9 forwards, $15M for 6 defense and $6.6M for 2 goalies and $1.2M in retained salary for a total of $76.8M for 17 players. They are obviously going to add Pietrangelo for $9M which will put them to $85.8M and 4.3M over the cap. They'll trade away Johnsson and send Marincin and Rosen back to the AHL which brings them to cap with $500k to spare.
They then just let Mikeyev, Dermott, Guthier, Malgin, Spezza, Clifford, Baririe, Ceci all walk (RFA+UFA).
Boom, Cap compliant team of:
8 Forwards
5 Defense
2 Goalies
There's just going to be some double and triple shifting for every game. No big deal. |
|
|
|
Do you ever look at teams cap space before you start spouting this BS? Besides no cap space, there is absolutely no need for Krug in Arizona. He’s not leaving Boston. Most likely Petro stays in St Louis. Ceci will end up in Tampa on a 1 mil deal. |

Agreed, that's about as much of a consolation prize for landing a high-end d-man as being one number away from winning Lotto 6-49 and then having one of your testicles kicked back into your abdomen.
I'm not a Leafs fan by any stretch, but they really should just walk away from Ceci. |

@spatso because quotes aren't working.
Not that I think the Leafs are going to land A.P. but my guesses would be the salaries of Ceci, Kapanen, Johnsson and Nylander would be starting points.
Ceci, Johnsson, and Kapanen are what? 10-11 million combined?
Not looking at capgeek, just going off the top of my head. |

Under NO circumstances should or will the Leafs keep Ceci. He is far worse than a replacement player at league minimum. |

So Arizona already has OEL and Chychrun on the left side, but they are looking to shell out big bucks for Krug? This doesn't even address a need, let alone make any sense from a cap perspective. Then there is the other minor detail of why on earth Krug would consider signing in Arizona. He loves Boston. He loves the area. Why would he sign up for the next 7 years playing in the desert for a franchise that has no direction? Is it possible for you to call that source back, ask a couple of those follow-up questions, and then report back to all of us? Thanks in advance. |

would love to see pietrangelo in the new blue and white. Very long shot but you never know.
4.59 in projected cap space.
Only way is for Dubby to make bold decisions.
Trade - Nylander, KK or Johanson kerfoot
what ever happened to "build from the net out"

I tend to agree - but was really strange they re-upped Scandella and got Faulk. Thought that was weird.

The only consolation involved with Ceci will be accorded to the GM who inevitably regrets signing him. |

I'm surprised that "many of the people you talked to" believe that Cody (not Codi) Ceci is going to be a consolation prize for the teams that miss out on Krug! I'd be shocked to find one single person with a basic degree of hockey knowledge that would feel this way.
First of all, Ceci is bad at hockey. Second, his style is basically the exact opposite of Krug. So any team interested in Krug's skillset is certainly not going to then turn their attention to Cody Ceci. Honestly, this makes no sense. If your source told you this, you should have questioned how this was even possible.
Whoever misses out on Krug (I fully expect him to sign in Boston) will turn their attention to guys like Barrie, Vatanen, Brodie, maybe even Schultz. You know, guys with comparable skills. What's next...whoever misses out on Taylor Hall is going to look at Matt Martin. |

Leafs are screwed for cap space - unless they do something BOLD - trade nylander?
Pietrangelo should find a way to stay in STL
I think Krug might be gone - wanting big bucks - detroit??? Michigan native
Hall staying in Arizona - over 50% - uncertain times - get the security and ope they can take another step forward
