Very hard fought series Blueshirts nation. Stick taps all around.
Now tell that clown Quinn to put Kakko in the top-6 so he can start to progress, not that I’m a bitter dynasty owner or anything |

Not a huge fan of Quinn after two years mostly with his lack of mid game adjustments and the system he plays. That being said Kakko was not ready for the NHL this year.
His skating and game speed are not there yet. Saw flashes, but not consistent enough |

Good blog Jan, pretty much sums up the series. Carolina dominated in every facet of the game and hopefully our young guys take something from that and how hard they have to work every shift.
Take a break if you need it. Enjoy some of the summer. JRR will fill in and write blogs. |

Good job, Jan! Everything you do is much appreciated!
I'm not sold on Chytil either. Aside from his horrendous faceoff skills, I'm just not sure he'll ever be a big point producer. He just seems to have cement hands too much of the time also. Hope I'm wrong. |

1. Yes 4.5 to 5 for 2-3 year deal
2. Yes They need to start to save on the cap space somewhere.
3. No, with this pandemic I dont think any playoff team in contention will be willing to pay him. Plus I think he still has some baggage concerns.
4. Im beginning to think no. I really dont like the way he handled some of the younger players and was the Rangers good season a product of Panarin, Zib and Fox having career years or his coaching?
5. Yes hopefully he will be bought out or traded. We wont get full value for AG in a trade. Dont need the distraction of a 3 goalie system next year. Time to move foward.
6. No He is still needs some growth. Dont push him. We dont need another bust first round pick.
7. Quite possible. Do we keep Trouba? Would the Rangers be willing to trade him? Still have some time to the "July 1st" dealine to deal him.
8. Yes |

Some random thoughts:
Anthony Scultore at Forever Blue Shirts offered an interesting ending for Hank here in NY:
Hank retires from NHL, Rangers gain his full $8.5 mill in cap space. Hank joins his brother Joel and they play a season together in SHL with Frolunda. This would be a dream scenario for everyone so this is what I am hoping for. WIN/WIN for all!
IDK what to do about Strome, but Chytil is NOT ready to be our 2nd line center yet. My hope is the Rangers somehow get Cirelli out of Tampa and he replaces Strome as our 2nd line center for the foreseeable future.
Will be curious to find out if there are injuries to Mika, Tony D and Gauthier that limited their play in this series.
Wonder if Quinn makes any changes to coaching staff in the off season. Specifically the defense. Quinn hopefully learned something in this series because he has to be better going forward too.
I don't think we will win draft lottery, but its nice to even have a chance! |

Next year is a big year for Quinn. He needs to show some improvements with mid game adjustments. They have to be a playoff team next year for him to keep his job I think |

This coach reminds me exactly of what the flyers went through with hakstol. Wasting time with these amateur coaches |

The Frolunda rumor came up earlier this year and was discussed. I just noted it on the podcast. Would not shock me at all. |

Thank you, Jan, for another season of excellent hockey commentary. I also really appreciate being able to participate in a blog that isn’t ridiculously cliquey with hair-trigger admins, e.g. Blueshirt Banter. With a name like that, you’d think good old fashioned blue seat banter would be welcome, but, talk about thin skins, those dudes, Oy!
I’d pass on all our free agents except Fast and Giorgie. I love Quickie and so do his teammates. Giorgie is a perfect #2 for a young, competitive team.
Hank, Staal and Smith are glaring problems. I’m just crossing my fingers that we can navigate those difficult waters in some relatively positive way.
Thanks again. Be well. LGR. -B

My take is that if there is one silver lining here is that at least management now can make a more realistic assessment of what they have and don't have here. Sure, it was only three games, but it was three huge games AND games they had a LOT of time to prepare for. Like many others, I thought this time could be the sleeper team of the tournament and make a great run, but, uh, no. But, again, I think that that means that management won't be overly optimistic based on what we saw in February and that better decisions will be made. So, for that reason if nothing else, I'm still very glad these three games happened. Although it is weird waiting for months and then having it be over in four days! |

Looking forward to the question blogs.
This offseason will be critical to the future of the franchise in so many ways. I really liked Quinn and am rooting for him but this team was not prepared and did not adjust well and that is all on the coach.
Left out JT Miller in that list of players that were mismanaged here and went somewhere else to perform well. Maybe he had a one season fluke, but if JT has 2-3 more seasons like he did this year combined with the others there needs to be some accountability within the system.
The D was the worst it has been all season and Ruff wasn't even in the bubble. I'll raise my hand as the first person who wanted him gone. Still do. But this may be the first red flag that Ruff was covering up for deficiencies in Quinn's ability to construct a defensive system. If I'm JD the entire coaching staff is on notice this season and it comes down to the progress for guys like Kakko, Chityl, Kravstov, Howden, and overall improvement on the blue line.
Guess we will see how the lotto balls bounce and start from there |

This is what worries me about Quinn. Was not all that impressed with progress of howden, chytl, and kakko during the season. I also hate his system. The defense purposely collapses down low to try and pin the forwards. We end up bleeding shots and a ton of possession time for the opposing team.
