For more than a year now Monahan has been a slightly better version of Micheal Ryder.

Nothing wrong in itself, problem is he's supposed to be our 1C.

Not trading a 2C straight up for a 2RW

If the average Joe can see how ineffective Moaningham and Goodrow have become, what makes you think GMs and scouts haven't?

Average Joe is usually an idiot and would be in this case as well. The Flames aren't going to be trading Gaudreau unless he wants out. He'd also bring back a ton. He has better stats than Kane through their first six seasons.

Monahan also isn't going anywhere. Sure, he's on the lower end of first line centres, but it's also impossible to upgrade. There aren't any centres available that are better than he is.

2/3 of the "Butter" line gets crushed by 1st, 2d, 3d and 4th liners. Don't kill penalties, don't get matched against 1st lines, disappear during the playoffs, lose one on one battles. Corsi numbers validate this, season give-away leaders for the team. If they had 1/2 the heart of Fleury it would be a different discussion....yeah, I would consider a trade, the Flames need the cap space.

If they're trading Gaudreau, it may as well be a fire sale since Tkachuk is going to want out in two years if they're committed to mediocrity.

Everyone is so convinced Gaudreau wants to play for Philly that they're ignoring Tkachuk is basically in the same position. What if Gaudreau is willing to sign long-term and Tkachuk isn't?
