a problem for the Leafs is that I don't think there's too many GMs who like the idea of trading away a good defenseman for a soft winger |

Normally, Ek rumors are as easy to dismiss as the reality of Santa Claus, but if Terry's looking to interfere again, then big money will absolutely be thrown at Pie. For better or worse. |

What happened to Dubas' promise to Nylander that he wouldn't trade him? If he does will this be a warning to any other of his RFA players that his word isn't to be believed. |

No big UFAs are going to live in Winnipeg unless they play the next few years in Toronto due to COVID |

Apparently that promise was only during 2019. It wasn't the duration of the contract |

Makes sense for Buffalo. All they have at RHD is Ristolainen, Montour, Miller, and Jokiharju. Plus no large contracts taking up a lot of cap space. And no glaring holes at other positions. Oh wait...
From a hockey and cap perspective, Pietrangelo to Buffalo makes zero sense. But zero sense explains Buffalo pretty well. |

Nylander does not make since for the Flyers unless we are dumping someone who does not perform well in playoffs too.
Leafs need salary relief in the form of a dman over performing his contract And the Flyers would need to move a higher salary contract to make it fit. I.e. Myers and JvR, as the starting point. Ain’t happening |

Risto and Montour are rumored to be on the trading block, though, so a hole could be created |

One would hope the Sabres now understand overpaying UFA's (Okposo, Skinner) is a horrible plan!
Pietrangelo would be a great add but he will want term and $ to come to Buffalo and for that reason I hope the Sabres pass and explore the trade market. |

Flyers will not be trading for Nylander, they definitely won’t be moving Myers, and Toronto absolutely positively will NOT be taking JvR‘S contract.
Let’s just toss all of this nonsense in the bin |

Notice how most trade proposal involve one team or the other trying to dump salary because of cap pressures. The core issue for most teams is the cap that is the issue. And, the secondary issue is the team structure needing to be put in place as teams anticipate the completion of their protection lists for the Seattle draft.
Speculative trades involving two teams near the full cap are silly. Especially, if the deal only makes the expansion draft more problematic.
Buffalo doing a big UFA deal does make sense.
Many teams simply do not have any cap flexibility and the teams that do will not bail them out without getting something substantial in return.
It won't cost the Leafs as much to move Nylander as they paid to get Marleau off the books.
Nylander will be dealt for a low first round pick. |
