It's good from a Red Wings perspective. I'd love for the Wings to acquire Kapanen. But I still believe Nylander will be traded so Dubas will likely want to keep Kapanen around. Johnsson is coming off an injury so I'm a bit hesitant trading for him.
I can't see Dubas trading Kapanen for a rental in Glenny who's going to be a UFA after next season. Leaf fans would likely burn the arena to the ground if that trade happened. Johnsson? He still has more value than Glenny simply because he's younger and is locked up for a few years. |

For sure, I think it will be a surprise if Nylander doesn’t get moved. Dubas seems to have an “understanding” with Nylander regarding a no trade, but it’s not inked. The numbers are going to force his hand. I’d even read a quote that said taking on a “dead contract” won’t help them this year. Running out of tricks |

team needs centers, defenseman and a goalie.
if they select perfetti at 4 thats another winger to go along with Zadina.
Is Larkin a #1 C on a cup team? not sure..seems to be he would be a very good #2. So, where do they go and get their #1C. You usually have to draft one or if they do become available give up a big time asset in return.
They could also select Drysdale and have him, Seider and Hronek moving forward which would be good too. |

Definitely need depth, pretty much everywhere. Gergeswillems is a big supporter of trading for Tyler Johnson (so am I). I do believe Larkin can be a top center, but it would be good to have another top guy. The exciting thing is that the field is wide open, the scary thing is that the field is WIDE open. I do like Drysdale |

Love Larkin and this proves nothing, but the last team to win a Cup with a worse No. 1 center than Dylan Larkin is probably the 2003 New Jersey Devils. |

I think he still has upside, but I would really like a high end center. IF Larks was your no.2 that would be an excellent problem to have!
Shoot me a DM Sven. Would love your input for another write up brother |

Johnsson is a bit injury prone, but it tends to be because (when healthy) he can get get pretty feisty for a guy with his size of frame.
The good news is he seems to have a remarkable talent for healing faster than is normal. Nobody knew he was going to be 'fit' for the play in, and I remember hearing about how his last few prior returns where also way ahead of schedule. |

Maybe he's like Wolverine from X-Men. Heals fast. I like Johnsson's speed. He's either generating scoring chances or drawing penalties. We lost some speed trading Athanasiou to Edmonton. It would be nice to replace that.
But I'm thinking Dubas will keep both Kapanen and Johnsson and trade Nylander. The Leafs do have young Robertson so perhaps Johnsson becomes expendable? Yzerman is in a great position to acquire some decent talent from teams who are right up against the Cap. |

I've said it before that in my opinion, the Wings should not be looking at wingers right now. They might get a top end center in this draft (Rossi unless Byfield or Stutzle fall to them) but then they would still need a top end LHD. If they draft Drysdale and then they won't plug any holes on the roster since they have plenty of young guys and prospects for the right side on D and they would still need a 2nd line center that doesn't suck.
If i were the Leafs, Marner is the guy i would be looking to move for a Seth Jones type of return. If they have to take more salary on to make it work, i would try and have a deal in place to maybe move that extra salary somewhere else right away to take a shot at Pietrangelo. Then they could roll out Reilly-Pietrangelo, Muzzin-Jones type on defense and have a solid top 4 and still have great offense.
As for the Wings, i don't really see a match for a trade with the Leafs. They don't have defense to trade that are any good and they are not trading Matthews or Tavares. What i would like to see is Yzerman try to get Nurse out of Edmonton if he can do it without creating another hole. |

Only Pacioretty can be Wolverine. That dude has some serious breaks!! |

Why would the Leafs trade either Kap or Johnsson for a retread like Glendenning? They could easily trade both for a draft pick if they simply wanted to dump salary. |

There's no way Columbus is trading Seth Jones for Mitch Marner. |

You listed Jones in your defense pairings. A defenseman like Jones? Like who? Hedman, Josi or Carlson? You're not getting any of those guys for Marner either. Teams who have elite level defensemen aren't trading them. Unless you're David Poile. |

Stud RHD don’t get traded for 10.893m wingers. It’s a waste of time. |

Would make me think twice about signing a 10.893 Million contract.

Look again it says Jones type in the defense pairing too. I don't mean Jones at this point of his career i mean Jones when Columbus traded for him from Nashville. A young defenseman with loads of potential, not yet a star but already with some NHL experience. Going with Nashville as an example maybe a Dante Fabbro. Obviously it wouldn't be 1 for 1 for the Leafs, they would need something else coming back and likely some salary.
I guess i should have been more specific than just Jones type but more like a Johansen for Jones deal. |

If the Leafs can deal Marner (unlikely) or Nylander (possible) for a top-pair d-man, then they may just hold Kerfoot, Kapanen, and Johnsson.
If they can't acquire a top pair d-man in a trade, and instead address this in free agency, then guys like Kerfoot, Kapanen, and Johnsson would likely be moved to create the cap room.
Certainly the Leafs could deal these guys for draft picks. Athanasiou was just traded for a couple of 2nds. Nobody is going to offer anything better than this for this trio of Leafs, especially with the Leafs dealing from a point of desperation to shed salary. So maybe you can dump Kapenen or Johnsson for a 2nd + 4th or something along those lines. Could Detroit offer this - sure could.
But that still leaves the Leafs needing to round out a roster using low-cost players. They can promote a rookie, or use a guy like Nic Petan...but if their window to win is right now, then a guy like Glendening, at 50% retention, or just a $900K cap hit is pretty attractive. What's more valuable to the Leafs right now...an extra 2nd + 4th to dump Kapanen or Johnsson, or adding a 4th line workhorse like Glendening. The fact that Glendening is a UFA after 1 year isn't ideal, but in a win now world for Dubas, he can't get picky. You either convince Glendening to come back on a team-friendly deal, or you move on and recycle in the next cheap contract. Chicago did this well for a number of years. They kept the core intact and would bring in a guy for cheap, use him, and then lose him. |

Toronto could trade Nylander and Kapinen to LA for Doughty, that would do it! Done!
Or acquire Suban for Kapinen and Johsson with NJ retaining $3M
Or emptythe cupboard and get in a bidding war for Petrangalo.....
I really think they can turn to a Defence rich team like the Canes and swap for Hamilton and Fluery or Bean. and the Canes would resign Vatenen and Van Reimsdyke

I think Dermott, johnsson, and Kerfoot are seriously in play.
I think Dubas will be fired before Nylander gets traded.
Kapanen has surprisingly grit to him... have a feeling he would be the last to go, of everyone possibly available. |
