If you look at Montour’s IG you can see he is really goOd buds with Henrique.

Also, you can rent montours air bnb in Cali for 900 a night, sleeps 10.

Montour seems to love the lacrosse connection with buffalo and that could help bring in some of his buddies. You have to be tuff to play lax.

I'd pointed that out on another site, while playing armchair GM, when I presented a trade that asked Anaheim to send a 2020 second-round pick Buffalo's way (with the Sabres sending a 7th) because of that fact. It might not be possible from the Ducks' perspective so maybe they could eat a small portion of Henrique's salary, say $1 million?

Nice write up

The above is fine with me. $4.85 isn't ideal, but it's not a killer either.

This trade gets 4 Bjusteads out of 5. Pull the trigger.

Risto is probably viewed as a reclamation project. I like the guy, he's talented, he's still young, but adding him in exchange for Henrique immediately destabilizes the Ducks' forward corps. Ben is a little optimistic in his thoughts that the young guys are ready to step in and take Henrique's minutes. Similar to the Sabres' situation with Cozens, the young guys will need time to get comfortable with bigger minutes and unsheltered starts. Remains to be seen. Yes, 4 more years of Henrique and a ~5.8mm cap hit is a bummer and there will probably be a performance drop off near the end of the contract. But Henrique is an intelligent player who will still be useful near the end of that contract because of his style. I don't think Risto's upside is worth the downside of losing Henrique.

Finally, I'm guessing Buffalo is (or will be) on the MNTC. Orange County is pretty nice with a little money in your pocket.

Would think that Rakell could fill the 2C for the Ducks until the likes of Zegras, Madden, et all are ready to step up. Seems like a good potential trade. Would still leave the Sabres with about $9M of cap space after signing RFA's. In addition to a 2C, Sabres need to find a player with snarl and size who can contribute to the bottom 6, an upgrade in goal and a LD. Lot to accomplish.

2. Nick Bjugstad | C/RW | Age 28 | One-year, $4.1 Million
While he may not be as much of a slam-dunk positive addition as McCann, Bjugstad is both the most likely to be traded, and most high-risk, high-reward option on the list. After appearing in only 13 games this past season as a result of a severe back injury, the 28-year-old’s $4.1 million cap hit is a bit of a dark mark on the Penguins’ books. In May, it was announced that he experienced a setback in recovery, which resulted in spinal surgery.

That’s a major red flag, but considering what is sure to be a very low acquisition cost, perhaps it’s a gamble the Sabres should take, as long as their doctors feel he will be able to play. While the 6-foot-6 centerman may never re-attain the half-point per-game clip he produced at in the early stages of his career, he is still a capable offensive contributor.

The Sabres need scoring, and they don’t have many assets to part with. If he’s healthy, Bjugstad might be an effective stopgap option at center while Dylan Cozens gets acclimated to NHL action in a more sheltered role. Expect the Penguins to shop him for a mid-to-late round pick. With just one year remaining on his current deal, that gamble seems well worth it for an offensively desperate team like Buffalo.

He might not be the conventional second-line center fans are looking for, but in the Sabres’ situation, you’d be hard-pressed to find a “buy-low” option with a higher potential production ceiling.

My guess is Larsson (a lefty) is exposed and picked by Seattle. Getz is UFA after next year, so that will open ice time for the younger forwards. I don't think the Ducks are in a rush and will miss the playoffs again (along with all the CA teams). I see the Ducks picking Drysdale at 6 if he's available, too.

Where does Giuseppe Zangara fit in all of this? Is he like a Larry, high expected goals for, but instead of hitting FDR he kills the mayor of Chicago in Miami? Or would that be more akin to Tage and his wild inaccuracy...

Bro, he's wearing a loose, black t-shirt, it's impossible to tell how fit he is, unless you can give him an ocular pat down or something.

Thanks Mike !

I’ve always liked Henrique since his NJ days. This team desperately needs a veteran, a Center, a good guy on face offs and can put up some points. His contract is a bit hefty but he checks off soooo many boxes.

Maybe since he grew up just across the border he’d be willing to make the move.

It’ll never happen though because we don’t deserve nice things.

Excellent write up.. after reading it now I don’t want to trade Rico

Just kidding.. Trevor is making this team next year... he’s got nothing left to prove anywhere else.

Getz for 1 more yr. / Trevor /& either Terry or Steel @ 3rd C and elite # 1 C Derek Grant comes back ... Or someone else to man 4th line.

This trade makes a ton of sense both ways. We can work out the dollars by swapping some pics or eating a little salary..

Let the kids play !!!!!!! That means: Cozens, Mittelstadt, Samuelsson, Johnson, Pekar and Thompson....

Could we be any worse or inconsistent? Save the money on the over priced, over the hill veterans who do not want to be here.

Pay our own if and when they earn it and stop the endless cycle of bad decisions.
