The Oilers have to clear some cap space in order to sign a good goalie that could really help them. This team also has to find a way to get some better d-men and learn how to improve their dismal play in their own zone. |

You overlook the obvious with Holland. He is going to sign Jimmy Howard. Holland loves players that he knows and has had before even if they are past their primes or just not that good anymore. We saw it time and time again in Detroit. |

I think it all depends on what Holland is able to do to change the defence and bring in hard working wingers and where that leaves him with the cap. Raanta would be a great tandem with Kosk but they can't afford that much in their goalies while upgrading team unless they can part with all of Neal, Russell and Chiasson without retaining salary and bring in cost effective replacements and alter defence with little change in money in/out there. Difficult to do.
The ideal thing would be to get a currently cheap young goalie like Georgiev or Merzlikins to come in as tandem and grow while playing out Kosk's last 2 seasons on contract when they are fully ready to take over and give them his $. But those will be tough trades to make and not sure Holland will outbid other teams, especially with so few draft picks. And no way CBJ parts with Elvis anyway.
For those reasons I also believe Jimmy Howard will end up on Oilers on 1 year/1 mill deal. |

Doesn't even begin to arouse my interest. Georgiev is fine, but likely worth somewhere around a 2nd, Hajek isn't much of anything, and Smith is a cap dump that would make the trade a cap negative for us alongside Georgiev's new contract.
The only way I'm trading our best Dman is if it returns a perfect top-6 fit (two-way goal scorer on a good contract) or if we decide to rebuild at which point Miller or Lundkvist would be targets as a return. Even then though, I trade Klefbom before I trade Nurse. |
