What type of off season moves are the Panthers likely to make when they name a GM? Lots of UFA's this summer.
Are they going to have a youth movement and move some prospects into there lineup?
Any chance Spencer Knight signs and leaves school? |

Shero or Hextall. Shero has shown success, and Hextall can restock a farm system.
Hextall only had one crack at the job, and his issue was micromanagement. However, he was put in charge at creating two teams. One was LA, and they won. The other was Philly, and he certainly drafted very well. We’re seeing that now.
Considering the same guys get chance after chance and there is constant recycling of people in that position, I would think it’s only fair someone takes a flier (Hyuk) on giving him a second shot. If he learned from his mistakes the first go around, he’s a winner. If he didn’t, well, you fire him and hope he gave you a sound base of players to grow on. |

I think Mellanby is a good suggestion TBH.
He should be a low cost guy than understands hockey. |

Certainly good ties to the team. Natural step up for him. |

Ray is the man. He simply won trades (except for PK), and left the Devs with Cap space, Prospects, and Picks. He recruited Gusev, Butcher, at no cost. Halls trade was an absolute home run, and developing Coleman paid off big. No complaints. He is the guy for the job without a doubt. |

Defense needs to be addressed. Some quality shutdown D are going to hit UFA that bring what the Panthers need would include Edmonson/Hamonic/Demelo. All fantastic in their own zone, and you guys already have the offensive D to pair with guys like that. |

No doubt about it, I’d like to see them start rotating in some of these young guys and see what they have.
I think Knight is still a bit away, but who knows. I’m really curious to see his path unfold. |

Thanks for the insight, Hesh. There was another Flyers fan on the last blog who said pretty much the same thing you did about big Ron.
Sounds like he knows what he’s doing when it comes to drafting, and has a real eye for talent in the prospects realm |

You nailed it, Bikeguy! The defense is awful, and has been for years.
They have two guys (Brown and Stillman) who show some potential to be stay-at-home guys, but their current crop of blueliners share the same mindset of wanting to be forwards instead of defensemen. It’s tough.
I’d love to get a couple guys in there that have the Daneyko/Stevens instincts
Like you said, the Panthers are desperate for some real shut down guys on the backend. |

I agree about Ray. I’m a fan of the Devils, too, and liked a lot of his moves. PK is a tough one, though. Seems like a great guy and very charitable, but I’m not a big fan of the game he brings, and at $9M a season.
I think it was kind of a fluke year for NJ. There was some nice moves made, but they just kind of fell flat when it was time to put it all together. It kind of felt like there was a plan and then it went out the window.
I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do next season. |

Who is making the GM hiring decision, Vinny’s military buddy Caldwell? What the poop does he know about hockey? |
|
|

Ok I just read Travis Viola along with Caldwell are doing the GM interviews. Come on man what the heck do either one of them know about hockey?
We have always been a Mickey Mouse organization, now you add Donald Duck to the equation.
Matt help me out here |

It’s a tough one, Harv. I personally thought that Pronger would have been the guy to slide over and take the role. I was kind of hoping/curious to see what he could do, but I guess it’s not to be.

His name is only on the list so that when they announce their questionable choice for GM everyone will just say, “Whew! At least it isn’t Chiarelli!”
I hope....
Edit; it is true, George Richards tweet...

And Drury has withdrawn his name from consideration |

Yes, but took many years for him to develop and start to reach the potential he was drafted for. Getting Lu back for him was a good trade at the time. |
