To be honest here...Not quite sure what the Islanders were thinking when they selected him. It appears that this was more of a depth draft selection.

I was surprised with the pick but Holmstrom is still young and can still develop into a good player.

I don’t think you pick depth players in the first round. Kid is 19 played in Bridgeport last year. Let’s give him some time to mature. Someone on the Islanders staff liked him to pick him in the first round.

Or just could be another Shat signing/pick by Lou

It's taken some time for Beau to find consistency. I'm not stating Holmstrom will be Beau but it's too early to judge.

Of course, kids 19 played a half a season on an AHL sheet of ice. It’s gonna take some time. He was a very good U18 player for the national team.

Big adjustment for the kid knew he would be a bit of a project and not jump in right away. Hopefully he puts it together in a couple of years.

This was done so the kid plays and continues to work on his game vs not playing. I think it’s a great idea.

I’m not watching hockey anymore so it really doesn’t matter

I’m sure glad the players didn’t play. It has totally cleaned up NY, Portland Etc. and racism should be a thing of the past.

100%. Hopefully they postpone tomorrow’s game so they can end world hunger.

Holmstrom was selected exactly where expected, even with the tweaked ankle.

Trotz said changes he was making for G3 if it were Thursday are still going to happen tonight.

Also said team hasn't had any hockey meetings yet today. Cited the mental drain of having the conversations players have been having last two days.

"We'll be ready."

I get that it is too early to judge if he will make it or not. When I say he was a depth player, I meant that in watching film and looking at his stats. It really makes you scratch you head as to why the Isles took him in the first round.
I am not sure what they saw or what they intend him to be. thats all.

That’d be Lias Andersson. Who (IIRC) was drafted by the Rangers 7th overall in 2017. It was later reported that they suspected he’d top out as a 3C, but took him to fill an organizational need.

Whether that be true or no, I felt he is yet another fine example of just how wrong 7 usually is.

Refs didn’t even call a penalty on the hit originally

My guess is they weren't looking that way since the hit was so late. Upstate can weight in.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ritchie gets a call from the league.
