Money, and a poor relationship with the owner.

As I understand it, Charlotte wasn't willing to eat the cost of AHL vets that fill out the roster. Nor were they willing to put money into building a practice facility for the team. The Wolves will, and they already have a practice facility.

The other thing is accessibility. Yes it's a short drive to Raleigh from Charlotte, but there are a lot more direct flights to everywhere from Chicago than from Charlotte.
