Thanks Carol
Did you see Ray Ferraros podcast with dregs and what he thinks the canucks could do with marky and demko? I think he's right, if canucks go into the expansion draft with both, Seattle takes the one that isn't protected

Sergei Bobrovsky must have amnesia - Shuswap Wap
No, the Panthers play a completely different style of game than Columbus. If Markstrom goes to a team that’s a lot better defensively than the Canucks it could prolong his career and help him avoid injury not having to make ten 5-alarm saves every game. |

Yes, thanks! The hockey player jet was fantastic, although obviously we didn't get the full complement of drinks & snacks — just a bottle of Air Canada water.
I wonder if they needed to get it back here so that it's on hand for whomever happens to be the next team eliminated?

I am not sure what they said and truthfully I don't follow the TSN Vancouver group at all. I do know that Benning has said two days ago that Demko was Vancouver's goalie of the future. He also said I believe the same day maybe a few days before that it would never come down to a choice of who they would protect they would trade one first.
I think Benning did a great job on the last E draft where the best option was Sbisa.
If TSN doesn't offer up doom n gloom they are out of work. |

I dont think they are doom and gloom? I think they are pretty realistic. Benning also said they want to run a team with two very good goalies which I think is the plan, to re-sign marky. I think tsn is playing it out as if the canucks re-sign, but how to do it in a way where you dont offer marky protection in expansion draft. Usually TSN is way worse, I think they haven't been too bad regarding the canucks since the bubble started |

Again I am assuming seeing I don't follow them . I see Tweets from local Vancouver TSN and it is usually someone like Sekeres or JD Burke telling us how Canucks are doing everything wrong.

Sign Markstom for 5m/4 years, with no protection.
Structure the deal to try and make it less palatable for Seattle to poach him.
Play both goalies next year and protect Demko in the exp draft.
If the Krak select Markstrom, so be it.
Worst case scenario, we get another year of splitting duty with Demko/Markstrom and then Demko can take the reins the following year and we sign a capable backup. |

I really like the Ray and dregs podcast. I really like Ray ferraros takes on things in Vancouver. He's basically just saying that he thinks demko will be a bona-fide number 1, but worries about the jump to 60ish games in a season from being a backup. He also thinks canucks have two very good goalies that will ultimately lead to a hard decision both now or later, which I agree with. I dont bother with any other canuck personalities other than Ray, stuff on TV (sportsnet/tsn) and Carol so I am not familiar with what else is being said |

Not having trade or expansion protection was rays biggest concern with re-signing. No matter who you protect though, he thinks the other gets chosen if not dealt before the expansion draft |

Despite the good drafting and the good trade for Miller, the pessimism is well earned given Benning’s win loss record since arriving, his poor trades, his poor contracts, his lack of intelligent communications, and fifty years of losing.
Some of it is own doing, some of it is just Canucks history biting him in the ass. |

Cool. I can potentially see that happening.
If Demko had another year of splitting the workload, maybe playing 40-45 games next year (then Markstrom is poached) and Demko moves up to 55-60 games, i think that's not a bad transition, assuming he continues to perform.

Fair enough .
I stopped listening years ago when they had Pratt and Bro Jake. They then lost the rights and almost immediately switched their MO . I forget if it was Bloated or DCT that said back then the only way TSN survive is to be Anti Canucks and almost immediately it switched.
I did notice back then that Ferarro was pretty rough on the way Canucks ran things and then the Fan base wanted Benning to hire Ray. You don't get more Canuck than that Hire the guy that dumps on your team 200 days a year |

I like Ray's analysis also - and I did listen to that podcast.
As I wrote in the last blog, there are so many variables at play.
I'm uncomfortable projecting Demko's future based on his performance in these playoffs, even if one does assume that he needs another year or two before he's ready to carry a full starter's load? Ferarro's confident that he'll get there.
I don't really buy what Benning suggested the other day, that they could re-sign Markstrom and then move a goalie at the trade deadline. If they're even close to the playoffs, they'll want to keep both.
If the Canucks don't sign Markstrom now, they'll basically lose him for nothing — or maybe for a low pick if they can't trade his rights. In that respect, they're no worse off if they end up losing him for nothing in the expansion draft — and if he's the player that Seattle selects, then everybody else is safe, too.
I'm starting to think that's the scenario that the Canucks want — particularly because it buys them another year before they have to make a long-term decision on Markstrom vs. Demko. The big question now is whether Markstrom will agree to a deal that doesn't protect him from the expansion draft.
And maybe that's OK? Fleury's move to Vegas was great for him — until 'the picture,' anyway...

Ray doesn’t dump on the Canucks, he’s paid to give an informed opinion, which he does. If people don’t like what he says he’s anti Canuck, which is horsepoop, he’s also said a lot of positive things about what’s happening in Vancouver with the kids. |

Like I said to Mr Mosquito the other day it doesn't what they do fans will complain. I am use to it. It's fine.
I enjoyed our set of steak knives we won for sixth place. |

To be fair up until last summer Ray Ferraro was saying that the Canucks were in shambles and going nowhere...no plan in place, etc. He changed his tune pretty quick. |
