LA would love to trade for that 22nd pick. What about Byfield, 2020 2nd, 2021 1st, 2022 1st...for 22nd overall, and Lafreniere?
LA then trades the 22nd overall and Doughty for Patrik Laine. And then sign Hall.
Hall-Lafreniere-Laine. Probably 325 points right there. |

Unless Turcotte and Byfield are included in a trade for LaFreniere, were not interested. |

If Laine is available why wouldnt we just trade the 22nd pick for him? |

Remember when the folks in Winnipeg were chanting “Laine’s better”? I sure do. |

Friedman on 31 Thoughts believes that if the Sens don't take Askarov at 5, the Devils will at 7. He says a lot of teams are wondering if New Jersey will take him there.

I don’t think taking a goalie that high is as abnormal as most think. Up until 2005 you had Price (2005), Luongo (1997) and Fleury (2003) going in the top 5.
Since then you could argue that the trend of drafting a goalie that high has drastically changed.
I think given Russia’s goaltending dominance in the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, along with their young pipeline of up and coming prospects (Sorokin, Shesterkin and Samsonov), you really have to consider taking a goalie that mixes Shesterkins reflexes, Khudobins positioning and Vasilevskiy’s athleticism.
This guy should be taken by Minnesota, but as mentioned, that is if he lasts.

especially in a draft like this where this particular goalie is so far above and beyond the next goalie on the board
however, f the Rangers were picking 4-10 I wouldn't want them to pick him either though
I completely get why a fan of any of those teams would be excited about picking one of these promising forwards available and not a goalie they'll have to wait around for |

from a sens perspective, i could get onboard with reaching for Askarov at 5 much more than i could with Ottawa reaching for Sanderson or Quinn (which has been rumoured). it's certainly a high risk move, but has the potential for massive reward......where the other 2 players seem safer, they'd be passing on obviously better players who play the same position to reach on those guys.
Askarov seems to be as close to a "sure thing" in goal as there has been in teh draft in over a decade, and he's probably teh only "sure fire" NHL goalie in this draft. if any player is worth reaching on in this draft, it's probably him |

Still a better call than sending Pointe to the box for getting stuck in the nuts!! Really, that was the PP Tampa should've had to end regulation. |

My thoughts one thing in draft is I am surprised nobody is mentioning Askarov going to Nashville at 11...Pekka Rinne days clearly coming to end and I clearly didnt see anything out of their goalies in their playoff loss to Coyotes...I think Carolina & NJ are teams that may trade up (or down if NJ 7th pick involved) to jump at chance to have a goalie who some say is only a year away from NHL ready! |

The Jets wouldn't trade Laine for overpaid Doughty and the 22nd pick. |
