Bit of a reach imo but I also think Gushchin is a better prospect if we’re looking at USHL guys and he’s projected mid 2nd round. |

LA also has 3 second round picks. NYR can have all of them if they select Byfield and leave Lafreniere for LA. Martin Frk is also available. |

You made Pete V happy with the pick.
I think it's a perfectly valid pick from the Rangers perspective, but I agree that with the names left on the board, the Rangers would certainly entertain dropping a bit to pick up an extra 2nd.
Speaking of which, the Capitals are in the exact same boat after the Dillon trade so if any GMs want to make a "theoretical" deal to move up to 25, the Caps are listening. |

Reached out to a few prospect guys to get their view. Debated on those I mentioned in the blog, especially Bourque. |

I like Amirov. Hoping “enigmatic Russian” can get him to slip to 32 |

As you see in the blog, if I went with best player available, he was to be the pick. Clearing up the logjam at LW would be required.... |

Wouldn't shock me if Rangers moved down to grab him or one of the other names I mentioned. |

That’s true. But damn. The team with LWs Panarin and Kreider both here for the next 6 years with NMCs. About to pick LW Alexis Lafreniere, taking another LW at 22.
They really shouldn’t do that. They need center. |

Players suffer injuries, you can't take a B+ player in the first round because of his position, you ALWAYS take the A player. If one of our LWs gets hurt, you have next man up.
2nd round picks and beyond: you can draft for position.
Otherwise ---- we should take Byfield first overall... |

Well the thing is at 22 the guys that will be available are getting into crapshoot territory and in our position if guys are ranked very close, they should look at position.
Lafreniere and Byfield are not close. |

While I agree the rangers aren’t a fit it would be thought not to take amirov. He’s really took off in the KHL to start the year posting 3 goals & 5 points in 8 games which is impressive given the fact that younger players don’t usually get a ton of opportunity in the Russian league. Personally I could see him as a riser thanks to this delayed draft |

The 2nd guess would enormous if they pass on Lafreniere. I keep thinking there’s enough talent/picks to trade for a top six center. Don’t know his availability but Sean Monhan comes to mind. He’s already gone through the growing pains, and is a perfect fit. |

There isn’t a chance in hell they would pass on Lafreniere.
If that even remotely entered their minds that would trade out of the spot. |

If they go BPA, in my opinion, Amirov would be the pick, which is what I wrote in the blog |

I think you have it right Jan, except I’d have gone with Bourque. But Brisson or Mavrik are the pick. Unless like you said Zary is there. Maybe Holloway falls a bit. Either way a center has to be the pick, almost doesn’t matter to me who it is. I also think the pick could get moved
Ek has Monahan to NYR. I started that rumor which I understand doesn’t help the rumor haha |

Truth is, I hope the best player available is someone who is a miserable SOB to play against. The Rangers have done a solid job of drafting highly skilled players with their recent high picks. As we just saw in the bubble, all skill no grit teams lose in the playoffs. Time to add some muscle, brute force and sandpaper to our line up. |

Why I love Laperiere and why I wanted Zary, as he sounds like he has a bit of grit to his game. Brisson may be that way a bit as well, just not at level of Zary. Though some think Zary may move to wing. it's also why don't be shocked if Ridly Greig is the pick. |
