Gruden is a high-energy, high-effort player. He displays excellent vision and passing ability paired with a decent shot. He’s a well balanced player who can play a variety of roles. |

If the Penguins were to move forward right now with Jarry and DeSmith it would be fine. It isn’t the most ideal situation because neither player has a large sample of NHL success, but they combine for a cap hit that is smaller than most teams pay one goalie and I am a fan of saving money at the goaltender position.
I agree. If the Pens can play a decent puck-possession game in front of their goalies and limit the number of quality chances against at least one of these two should be a reliable starter throughout this season. |

Well damn... I was wrong with RW poopting on our new coach because he isn't an NHL ready player. |

He's also already 20 years old and can go straight to Wilkes. If he does good there he will be called up when the injuries inevitably start happening....if there is a Wilkes/AHL, that is

Echoing the last blog, this is a great deal for us. All it took was one GM valuing Matt Murray more than the other options and we got a 2nd out of it and full cap space. All I cared about was the cap space. The 2nd is great!
Prospect is probably a nothing prospect but that’s just one more thing we got that didn’t count against the cap, so really can’t be mad about it. |

2018 wasn’t a super deep draft, but it wasn’t bad. I wouldn’t expect much from 4th rounder from that year. Regardless, a 2nd is more than I expected and the situation is over. We can move on. |

I hope GMJR uses the fact that Murray is gone to get Fleury. Just so RW could crap on it |

Fleury@50% and a 1st for DeSmith - only a 2.3 Million cap increase and nets a 1st
Trade that 1st and the Ottawa 2nd + ? for a 3C - TheGame316
Oh that is an interesting concept... I was moreso on the idea of how to undo having Matheson... and just using that cap space to fit in Flower and then deal with the 'possible' weak 3rd pairing then.
But your move really makes it tight on the cap to upgrade the 3rd line... so gonna pass. Undo Matheson somehow and then we can talk. |

Murray, Horny, JJ and Bjugs all gone...Simon probably not signed.
Much different look already. |

Gonna double down on my stupid fantasy and say that if we somehow did get Flower back on the cheap... I DEFINITELY want DeSmith still here to replace Flower in a few months.
Because a team is gonna have goalie trouble this year, it always happens... and now we have a Cup winning goalie playing backup at only 3.5mil a year for two years who could be serviceable during their injury woes. We could retrade the Flower, and get more picks/prospects... whatever.
Yep, gonna moneyball this (frank)ing scenario that can never happen because of (frank)ing Matheson's cap hit. |

I am a bit grumbly about this actually. I was VERY certain he would poop on the prospect because it "doesn't help us now" and assume JR will (frank) up with this 2nd round pick. |

Great trade!!! I was getting a bit worried. A 2nd plus a decent young guy for the system is all you could ask for.
Would love to see Foudy fall to them or to trade up a bit for him. |

I'll be salty if the Preds retained on Bonino

Thats another shrewd trade on his part. They will trade him as a rental at some point and pick up more picks. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if he retained half and sent Bonito back to the Pens. |

I know it’s tough to sift through his whining to get to what he’s actually saying, but you’re missing all his points if you thought he wouldn’t like this trade.
Be prepared for a lot of whines about how it’s stupid to not trade this pick, though. |

How come when it’s a bad trade it’s JR is an idiot, but when it’s a great trade JR doesn’t even get brought up?
Great job here by JR, high second round pick for goalie in a buyers market |

Was 4th on his junior team in scoring as a 19-year-old...maybe an AHL player one day. |

Just listen to Joe Starkey (My first mistake) and he kept saying he is a non-prospect. I'd liked to ask him "How the HELL do you know that?" Like he knows anything about him.
He has 66 points in 59 games last year and is only 20. Give the guy a (frank)ing chance. |

Nashville buying out Kyle Turris. I'd target him in free agency. He is a good 3rd line option and he can move up to a temp top 6 role if crosby/malkin are hurt. |

I like everything JR has done this offseason. Even if you hate Matheson, that was the cost of moving off of Horny. Look around NO ONE is taking on the $$ and term of a guy like Horny
