Going to be interesting to see what Lou does and if someone like Leddy gets moved?
- ses111

I have doubts that anyone will take Leddy. He makes more than his cap hit on the last two years of his deal. Actual salary is $6.5M and $7M, respectively. Maybe there's a team with space that wants him, but the general consensus this offseason seems to be that GM's aren't going to be picking up players that are owed a lot in real dollars.

The Dubinsky thing is interesting to me. The Islanders could trade for him and put him on LTIR. If they do that they could spend to the cap and also spend up to $5.85M over the upper limit. If they LTIR Ladd also they could spend up to $21.35M (Ladd+Dubi cap hit combined) over the cap. I'm just not entire sure they'll be able to land Dubinsky. Vegas and Tampa are also trying to shed salary and probably want him, and if I were Kekalainen I wouldn't be too keen on helping a division rival out with fixing their cap issues. Maybe my math is wrong, I can't keep track anymore...who knows.

Dubinsky is also due the same real-dollar salary that his cap hit is, so Malkin/Ledecky also have to sign off on paying someone almost $6M to not play in a season where they'll have little-to-no revenue coming in.

edit: With Dubois needing a new contract and CBJ only having $6.2M in cap space after buying out Wennberg...I'm not even sure Jarmo wants to trade Dubi. He might give them valuable cap relief if they keep him on LTIR. If he does trade him it's because ownership doesn't want to pay his ~$6M salary to not play all year.

Hmmm... also happens to be when the Islanders will have about a Billion dollars of cap room with Boychuk, Leddy, Leo, Clutterbuck, and Hickey coming off their books. Odd that he seemed to say 2 years.. no?

I don’t think the leagues free agents are signing 2 year deals because the Islanders will have more money then. It’s totally based on the lack of revenue and the cap freeze due to Covid19 and the hope the revenue and Cap will go up in a couple of years.

I mean I would love to think everyone wants to join the Islanders in two years but that’s just not what’s driving the Leagues FA to look at 1 and 2 year deals.

Lou is really going to have to get creative if moving Leddy is not an option. Boychuk and Ladd deals really hurt. The dreaded 7 year deal strikes again.

Have to think the Isles will be much more attractive at this point and especially with Belmont but signing 2 year deals would be more about Covid19.

For sure, competitive team, new building, great management, shat signings and all but this has to do with lack of revenue and the cap freezing.

Gotta think Ladd’s Knees are not going to pass the Islanders physical and deemed unfit to play and Banished to The Ladd Lagoon, AKA: Robidas Island.

I have a question concerning retirement. Say Ladd is talked into retirement. What happens to his contract. Do the Isles still pay it but it is not counting against cap? Is the only alternative LTIR?

If Ladd retires the Islanders owe him zero dollars and his cap hit goes away

But he's not just walking away from $12M so it's not even worth discussing.

I'm having a hard time rectifying those 2 assertions. Isn't Dubinsky owed a lot of real dollars?
