Not sure about the Janmark signing but at least it's only for a year. |

Mattias Janmark was a guy Dallas got from Detroit and stuck with, and developed in all phases, but not as a bread & butter scoring machine.
He has really excellent speed.
He ended up on the wing so the foot speed was a outside to in threat.
He played in all 26 playoff games due to the fact he can be that second guy in the dot, f the centre gets thrown out...
I have someone who is a friend working for Stars so I will ask him for some dirt, lol!
I guess the dobby re-up crushed the cap space too... |

I was just about to ask about his skating. I really don't know anything about Janmark, so I appreciate your input. |

I'd have to think some of these guys on one year deals could be potentially flipped at the deadline to recoup picks or trade for prospects. |

Not to worry, Stan has just signed Saad's replacement.

Janmark is a fine player in general - defensive specialist, good on the PK. He's just negative on offense, he's got a poor penalty differential, and people will definitely get tired if his turnovers quick.

Nice write up Theo.
While I’m not convinced Stan is the architect we need for a rebuild, I do believe he’s a smart person and understands the importance of prospects and picks for the future of this organization. Problem is, it’s seems apparent that with the changing financial landscape of the league, many other GM’s are valuing their picks and prospects too - regardless of where their team may be in its competitive life cycle.
Young players on ELC’s is the gold standard right now - with draft picks being the gateway to them. I have to believe Stan is trying to acquire them in his trade deals - but just not finding the return to be acceptable. |

He leans on the opposition, so there is bound to be watching zebras...
So glad you retaking to time to be here!

The Fox said: As the core got whittled down to half, when should it have made sense to stop the retooling each season and change lanes to the other alternative which is to rebuild. After one of the core was gone? Two of them? Three?
I say: Switch to the rebuild when it becomes obvious that (a) the retool isn't working (which should have been realized when Colliton hasn't been able to get them into the top-8 in the conference); and / or (b) when it remains obvious that retooling won't make them a competitive team while the "core" remains productive.

Having been on the losing end against the Hawks more than I want to even think about..
The only thing here that makes me as an outsider raise an eyebrow on is Craw.. I think Stan really did him raw.
He gave the team everything and more. And was the main reason to me that they beat us in 15. Add to that I think he can still play. Now they have neither he or Robin. Who exactly is going to stop pucks.
Kirby Dach, Alex DeBrincat, Dylan Strome, Dominik Kubalik, Matthew Highmore, and Adam Boqvist.
These kids are studs. I don't know how any Hawk fan couldn't be stoked on these kids added to the core. |

I was going to answer with what would have come off as a snooty answer, of what else does he have to know that he already doesn't?
I heard that some teams saw the emerging DEEP THINK excellent draft class this season and made sure they positioned themselves as recipients of the wealth.
I think Stan as seem what the cap odes and how you have to attempt to work it.
His scouting staffs are in place.
I don't think GMs get to rest on the results (or lack thereof) because they replanning for the longer seasons ahead as soon as things go well or badly in the present season.
You are correct that it is ridiculous to think the current economics are in play, and now the results of the goaltending youth movement will be what shaped things into the spring of 2021.

But even with that, I like Janmark in general. One of the issues I've had with JC as a coach is his lack of a legit checking line ala Kruger (Kampf did not see high enough QOC for this comp) so maybe Janmark can be a part of such a line. Kruger was a favorite of mine for a reason.
However, his cap hit is too high - he's a million too much. They'll retain that much when they flip him at the TDL for a 5th, maybe 4th if they're lucky. |

I'm wondering if they are waiting until they can LTIR players, so they can give Strome his money and also sign an extra free agent or two. |

Washington is over the cap, and they only have 20 players signed. What would it take to get Jakub Vrana? |

Is there ever a right time to rebuild, especially from the players perspective? When you have to start moving guys from the old core it will always cause ripples in the pond. This team has been average the last 3 years. Seabs has been declining. Keith has been good, but not the same #2 we have come to know. Toews had large stretches of ehhhh. The team needs a tear down. As it stands, the team has no real identity. Integral pieces of the old Cup core are gone. That being Sharp, Hossa and Hammer.
From a pure skill level, the Hawks are a couple steps down from the elite teams. So take what skill we have and surround them with energy/edge and a D zone scheme that works. We are not the electric/smooth possession team of 2010. They are going to have to learn to be a counter puncher in the neutral zone especially if they cant lock down coverage in their own end. I could care less about Toews and others grumbling about not being in the loop about changes. To share that info creates the possibility of it being leaked to the media.
Players want loyalty yet we see time and again these guys sitting out over contract disputes on legit contracts THEY SIGNED! This tear down is about a year behind schedule. I am forever grateful I was able to see the Cup run, but nothing lasts forever. The old way is not working anymore. Lets bring up the kids and enjoy watching them grow. The remaining team core can be LEADERS and show them the proper way to play the game at the NHL level. |

Even if Strome gets 2.5, we still have over 3.5 in available space. That includes Smith, Shaw and Seabs. |
