Carol Schram: NHL arbitration cases set to begin this week & looking ahead to World Jrs.
The NHL's schedule of arbitration hearings is set to kick off this week. So far, the trend is for teams and players to settle before things get that far. Another trend is seeing NHL teams loan prospects to European clubs to get them some ice time, but the Vancouver Canucks have not placed any players overseas so far. And looking ahead at World Juniors, it appears that Vasily Podkolzin will be the lone Canucks representative for 2021. |

I haven't watched much of Grzelcyk but looks a bit like Stetcher from a size and production standpoint. 3.7x4 seems like a huge overpay.
I guess they need to do something after losing Krug but it seems like the Bruins window is closing fast. |

I don't hate Stecher as much as some posters in here do, but Grzelcyk is definitely a better dman than him. |

Tyson Jost signed a 1 year 900k deal with Col. I'm not sure if he was Arbitration ineligible like Gaudette but it might be a comparable. |

Supposed to be a pain in the ass to play against. Bye Roussel?

It would have to be a trade since only $4M+ players can be bought out if Jake goes through arbitration.
I think it's more likely that this could is just being brought in as depth, especially if they end up trading or buying out Sutter. |

Like I said, I haven't watched much but Stetcher looks to be a better even strength scorer and possession is comparable when you take into consideration the teams the play on.
What does Grzelcyk do well? |

Gaudette had better offensive production in terms of PPG so I'd say he's definitely getting over $1M |

He's much better at defending, he's good at keeping opponents form getting shots near the ent or in the slot area, even relative to his teammates. Meanwhile Stecher was mediocre in that area on a weaker team, even relative to his teammates.
He's also better at moving the puck out of his zone with control, but the team he plays on definitely helps there. |

3-4 Teams were in on him, apparently he's never been given a solid chance. Wild card, you never know.

I'm guessing that 200K AHL salary was big for him. Most guys like him in this market would probably be happy to get around 100-150K on a 2-way deal.

From Hockey's Future on Hawryluk
Talent Analysis
Hawryluk is an offensively skilled forward used in all situations. He shoots the puck well and is a gritty forward that will drive to the net aggressively. He is reliable defensively. Hawryluk is shorter than most elite forward prospects but has a thick build and is strong on the puck.
Future
Hawryluk was one of the WHL's top scorers in 2015-16 playing for the powerful Brandon Wheat Kings and will look to crack the Panthers' lineup in training camp. Signed to an entry-level contract in March 2016, he is likely to begin his pro career with the AHL's Portland Pirates in 2016-17. Hawryluk does not possess the prototypical size of an NHL forward but is willing to play a physical game and projects as a capable top-six forward who can play a variety of roles. |

Always good to have centre depth. Kind of feels like they're going to try to move Sutter or buy him out to free up cash to add another decent Free agent.
Would prefer if they moved Gaudette along with a LE or Roussell both who have multiple years left on their contract. |
