Whatever happened to Montour? I really liked him and being a Leafs fan I was worried when the Sabres traded for him....but it just has not panned out. Would be curious to get some opinions from Sabres fans on why this is. |

I actually think the Sabres are trying to move Miller's ~$3-4MM contract via trade... |

re-signed on a 1 year deal this year - i believe it is for around $3.8M
he had a bad year, hoping for him to rebound - we shall see... |

Sabres tried playing Montour on the left side most of the season and he didn't adjust well to this |

I see that, but what happened to his game? He seems like a shell of the player he once was....just wondering if anyone has a theory on why that is. |

Isn't there a 20% Escrow and a 10% Deferral.....That's about 24M less Cash Outlay compared to the "Cap"? |

This team is comin' together. They need to play together. ALOT. if there is a way to extend their camp they should. Build a culture of winning. Even tho they have the firepower to win they may lose but it may not last long.
I mean... upgrading the goal tending should be a priority but may be a next offseason focus. Hutton is a star in Buffalo and a fan fav but not enough. Ulmark is unfortunately a #2 or 1b somewhere else. |

Previous dumb dumb GM traded for Montour, Jokiharju and Miller (all RHD) in one season and didn't trade Risto. That resulted in a massive log jam because he didn't trade Pilut or Bogo either. There's 6 RHD
Montour had to play LD and sometimes LW (not a joke) last year. That combined with Krueger's conservative system and his numbers are bad |

trade Middlestadt, Hutton, and a 6th for MAF ($2M retained) |

Good for Olofsson getting $3.05m 2 years but you know you also received 2 years $3.05m C. Tierney, is there any justice? |

Not really. Our D is actually pretty solid. The problem we have on D is the coach in charge of D and the PK. Steve Smith.

Next move...
Buyout Okposo... he is owed $9mil in salary over next 3 seasons and $5 million in bonus. Buyout would save Pegulas $3mil in salary AND spread out the cap hit over time. Cash savings would be $2mil, $1mil, and $3mil over next 3 seasons and the cap savings per year would be reflected as such... allowing Kevyn Adams to get closer to a lower internal cap. Tradeoff is the $1mil cap hit for years 4-6 post buyout.
Move after that...
Trade a defenseman: Montour ($3.85mil), Risto ($5.4mil) or Miller ($3.875).
If they did both of the above (including the fact that cash is less than cap for Staal, Girgensons, Olofsson, Eakins, Thompson and others), the Sabres would find themselves pretty close to the $10mil lower internal cap that was rumored by several hockey reporters.
From a fan perspective, it would also create cap space for a goalie like Marc Andre-Fleury (especially if Vegas would agree to take Hutton back, as well) and/or a return of Kahun (Kreuger likes him and no reports of him out there that I have seen)… or maybe one more short-term splash into UFA market. |

That’s laughable
Hutton is NOT a “star” OR a “fan fav” here in Buffalo
99% of the fans here want us to upgrade from him bc he’s wildly inconsistent, and his LONG losing streak last year cost us the playoffs
And if by some reason we can’t/don’t upgrade from him, EVERYONE wants Ullmark as the “starter” getting as many games as he can handle |

Pilut is LH, not right
No one wanted Bogo at his cap hit
No one would give us anything good for Risto
And there was no way to know that when we traded for Miller, that Chicago would lose their minds & give away Jokiharju
Your oversimplification of the situation doesn’t accurately depict why things happened the way they did |
