I’m impressed there are still ECHL teams trying to push forward. As in the NHL, there are owners who want to make it work. The financials are just causing a massive stalemate

The AHL will be the next domino to fall.

My wild guess is that the NHL will allow some sort of taxi squad that won't count against the cap - allowing about 8-10 guys to travel with team and practice.

Which will also have the effect of giving some teams further cap relief - something both the owners and NHLPA will like.

I really like that take. A bit like a “black aces” squad in the post season? Would their salaries be an issue at all? I know some teams are a little more cash strapped than others.

I can see it now. Tampa places Johnson, Gourde, Paquette and Coburn on the taxi squad. Re-sign RFAs Cirelli, Cernak, Volkov and Joseph. Boom! Tampa is cap compliant! 🤣

What a beautiful mess!

2 updates:

Toledo saying it will play this year, starting in February (see tweet on the blog). This still smacks of uncertainty, with the hope that by February fans can be in attendance. I don’t think this is a “settled” issue by any stretch.

NHL and the PA are “done” discussing financial adjustments to the June proposal. Additional deferment has been discussed by the PA, but no changes to Escrow. Remember that this year and next are “locked in” at 20% and 6% for the two seasons after that. There’s no way to get back to 50/50 with those numbers. I think it’s a failure of the PA to understand where the league finances are. At some point, the losses have to be repaid

Imagine a Canucks fan being so insecure about his own team who's never won (frank) all coming into a Red Wings blog to make fun of the worst team in the NHL. Your team is better than the Red Wings.
