Carol Schram: Canucks improve depth, sign Travis Hamonic to PTO as training camp opens The Vancouver Canucks opened training camp with a bang, announcing that they'd signed veteran right-side defenseman Travis Hamonic to a professional tryout contract — presumably with a plan in place to sign him to a proper deal when it makes sense from a salary-cap perspective.

Surprised Hammy’s playing. He opted out of bubble play last year. Guess he figured, play hockey or get a job. He’ll do wel with the Canucks.

Will Benning blow it and sign Hamonic before placing Ferland on LTIR?😁

Ferland is okay with going on LTIR : “I am fine with that. Getting healthy first is my goal. I am not close to being at the NHL level and I have a ways to go.”

Ferland has heard the calls to retire : “I hear a lot of it, from my wife and family and I understand. I just want to get healthy first”

Ferland on his teammates : They are chirping me on snapshot. They keep in touch and are great guys.

He’s played 14 NHL games since April 2019 and he still has a way to go? Yikes.

Thorton Matthews and Marner are the top line as per Chris Johnson

Been camping and enjoying summer for the past couple weeks, but I see JB signed my guy Hamonic!
Not sure how the haters feel, but I’ve been saying this for months.
Agree with Carol that we need some depth on the backend when the inevitable injuries occur.

You watched a lot of the Comets last year, do you think Jasek and or Lind can push for the 3lc over Sutter/Gaudette?

Not close yet. Jasek will be lucky IMO to make the team ever. He would be a third line center on Comets .

Lind played a number of games at center and is a very good passer . He had a good camp last year at the R2P training camp but I still think he is a year away at least.

I just want something better for the 3rd line, so I am grasping at straws.

Neither Barzal or PLD get traded given the assumed price tag. But hypothetically speaking, I would likely prefer PDL over Barzal because he likely fits better with EP40. Any Canuck offer would have to start with Horvat, A prospect, and a 1st. Too steep.

I consider Horvat and PLD to be very similar players, other than age.

I don't think they have that guy yet that is why I half jokingly suggest a one year return of Sutter.

I have not seen Michaelis play but I hear he is decent. I think he was brought in just to bridge the gap of center with Canucks and Comets. Graovac would be my first call up so that tells you where they are down the middle.
