Pretty much tells me nobody thinks it’s a bad contract. There’s just a small fraction who can’t be objective even for something as small as this.

I think this is a very good deal for the islanders and still fair to barzal.

Barzal wanted 10 million aav long term which would have been tight for the islanders to make work but with the contract being backloaded he’ll get a better contract than that at the end of this one.

For the islanders they get the smaller aav now to help them compete. Yes they will have to pay more in the long term but unless the cap skyrockets he’ll likely only get 1 million or so more than what he was asking for on a long term deal anyways.

I would also like input in here for all those that were yelling for teams to offer sheet him that he would have to want to go somewhere else for that to happen anyways. For all we know maybe teams did try but he had his agent turn them away.
