Bill Meltzer: Flyers Gameday: 2/3/21 vs. BOS - bmeltzer
Only thing I’m looking forward to about this game is actually going to a bar to watch it because we just opened up since November. Plus I can’t watch it at home because NBC has it blacked out. |

These next two games are critical to the Flyers. The Bruins IMO are the team to beat in this division. If the Flyers can take these two games without Couturier, this can really increase their confidence and launch them for the rest of the season. I thought the last game against the Islanders was the best the Flyers have looked all season. I am therefore interested in seeing if the Flyers can look as good against a team like Boston. |

Hope they don’t get smoked tonight - corduroy
Me too. They tend to play the bruins a bit better when at home, but we'll need a solid effort.. I guess we're wearing the retro's tonight.. should be interesting to see how they look. |

How are they the team to beat when as you claim, the Bruins don't have forward depth? They don't have scoring depth past the top line?

I'm in no rush to go back but some reading for those interested. - Pelle31Forever
The 30-minute air replacement in the seating bowl is interesting. I wonder what the max occupancy is for that to be meaningful given that they specify seating bowl. What about the rest of the building?
As for the rest of the safety protocols - they are only as good as the enforcement. |

Its games like this where we will really miss Dr. Selke. Shutting down that top line is going to have to be all hands on deck.

Would you agree that every NHL team has a flaw or weakness that other teams can try to exploit? If you agree with this statement, the Bruins are like every other team, and their lack of secondary scoring is their biggest weakness. If you don't want to take my word for it (big surprise), reference the so-called "experts" and they will tell you the same thing.
Still, at the end of the day, the Bruins have a very strong defensive structure, good goalies, great coaching and one of the best forward lines in the NHL. They are the reigning President Trophy winners and they *are* the team to beat in this division.

Bruins run a subtle interference, little picks, curious what kind of refs will we have tonight. The call everything or let it go |

Claude Giroux
Solely going by the numbers, one could make a strong case for putting Giroux in the “great” tier. He’s scoring at a point-per-game pace, and his underlying five-on-five metrics are through-the-roof strong. On a team that has generated just 45.88 percent of the expected goals, Giroux has a stellar 61.13 percent xG share. It’s a massive discrepancy that speaks to Giroux’s positive impact on his teammates, even as the rest of the club has struggled mightily to control play.
That said, I’m not sure the public xG models adequately measure some of the rough defensive shifts and games Giroux has had. In addition, he has scored only one goal, and all of his individual shot- and chance-creation stats are way down, which raises the question of whether he’s actually been the one driving his line’s success. My view: Giroux has been a lot better than his fiercest critics believe, per usual, but probably not quite as good as the numbers hint.

I missed it before but that really sucks about Frost missing the rest of the season. Was hopeful he didn't need surgery. |

They have to shut down that line and just hope their other three lines dont beat us. The Bruins really are a one line team, but what a line! |

Sure every team has weaknesses. The point is will that perceived weakness keep the team from contending. You stated that the Bruins can't be a top contending team due to that perceived weakness. Now they're the team to beat. Flip-flop flip-flop.
