Maurice's D priority order should be based on play now/potential
Heinola
Pionk
Forbot
Samberg
Morrisey
Demelo
Stanley
Poolman
Niku
Beaulieu
but Maurice's actual order goes;
Morrsiey
Beaulieu
Pionk
Forbot
Demelo
Poolman
Heinola
Samberg
niku |

Seems to have Niku in the right spot. |

Ross,
Agreed. PoMo has some guys he plays way too much. Beaulieu is good for blocking shots on the PK and not much else. I admire his grit, but he really doesn't need more than 8 minutes a night. Lowry is played too much as well. He never gave Raslovic a fair shake, and now the kid has 9 points in 8 games, and some highlight reel plays too. Happy to see the kid doing well, just wish the Jets would have worked something out.
On the other hand, throwing Copp into the top 6 has worked out well, and Appleton sure has stepped up this season. Harkins looks poised to challenge for some icetime as well.
Maurice needs to keep Connor/Sheiffs together, and Ehlers/Copp together. When they are split up, it just isn't the same. No clue why Maurice keeps altering a winning recipe. |

he needs to separate Wheeler and Connor to, they are just to much trouble together in our zone.
Dubois tweaked something at practice today, lets hope he's ok

If the Jets continue to give up 30+ shots a game against better teams then the Sens Helly will have to play unreal n order to have any chance to win. |

Game recap; ( posted it just as new thread started)
Poolman looked very good. He will stick in the lineup for the foreseeable future. Is he at risk of being lost to Seattle ?
The 11 forwards seem to work well. Likely something Maurice might continue to do.
Statsny worked out very well on the wing with a nice goal as well as the assist and several other near goals.
I like the line of Connor - Dubios - Wheeler. Once PLD's timing and passing get back to speed this line could do some real damage.
I've always liked Paul's play for the Senators but I heard Beyak say the he was +4 on a -27 team. That's unreal ! Add him to my want list if we ever had any room considering the depth the Jets now have. |

My preference if I were coaching:
Morrissey
Pionk
Forbot
Poolman
Stanley
Heinola (love him but he needs to muscle up or he will get crushed one game)
Samberg
Beaulieu
Niku

Poolman is a UFA next season so he will not factor into the Seattle draft - unless he re-ups before. Same goes for Lowry - unless I'm reading the expansion draft rules incorrectly, which is possible.
Poolman and Lowry (and Perreault) should be fair game for anyone - including the Jets or Seattle.
Didn't think the 11 forwards worked out well at all. But then again, the whole team played like crap for most of the game (the odd exception), so hard to tell.
The Jets never seem to learn that if they don't come to play from the opening bell on, they are very beatable. Same as other teams!

6 out 7 teams in the division finished between 25 and 31 last year in high danger shots allowed. Nothing seems to have significantly changes for these 6 teams since last year. This is the reason why I think the Jets will win the division based on talent alone. Jets have too much talent not to finish first in this division.

There was a pick from the world juniors with Heinola and a couple other Fins. Heinola’s legs were twice the size of the others. I think he has already bulked up. He needs to be in the lineup now IMO |

The picture looks clear from across the room but when you take a look closer look there’s a lot going on. Hartford was a lame duck franchise, on his first stent when they moved to Carolina they overachieved and went to the final. The team was a joke when he was in Toronto, Absolutely void of talent.
Where this all leads us now is pondering the question- is he the right coach for this time for the Jets?
He has been at the helm a long time and carries a lot of baggage and fans don’t forget. Perhaps they overachieved in 2018, they have been an exceptionally young team really until this year. 2018 2019 there was clearly right locker room issues, 2019 2020 buff and I guess you could blame a couple significant playoff injuries.
I was disappointed with him in 2018 2019 and felt that as an experienced coach it should never have got to that point. I can’t prove it but I think they’ve got rid of the issue now.
My expectation is that they finish first or second in the division, at minimum win a playoff round and have a competitive second round. No more locker room issues and the core of players who still like to play for him. Anything less and he’s not the guy I want anymore. |

If you look at what was said about Maurice in each of his 4 firings from Carolina and Toronto, they all say the same things. Specifically, they all note the same issues he’s shown in Winnipeg.
Paul Maurice is the problem with the teams he coaches. |

I’m becoming increasingly convinced that Blake Wheeler will not be playing in the NHL by the time his contract ends. |

Is it me, or does Morrisey get the yips anytime he’s given a pass in the O-zone? |

Well the fact that Stastny and Wheeler get number 1 power play time over PLD and Ehlers shows me exactly what Maurice thinks of his roster. Wheeler at this point of his career is a second/third line winger and Stastny is a 2B/3A center.
But we know Maurice, he will always go with the veterans.
Also why is Forbort and Beaulieau in the line-up over Heinola? It’s amazing that Colorado can run Girard, Byram, and Makar out regularly and the Jets can’t run out Samberg, Heinola and Stanley out to the same degree. It’s frustrating making sense of this coach’s decisions. |
