If he was currently the worst player on the time, I’d agree. Rebuild aside, he’s more productive than Nielsen or Filppula. We’re still going to be plugging holes for a couple years, may as well be a 24 year old than a 35+ veteran if the production is similar

This will certainly tell us and himself what his worth is. His contract is up, maybe he comes back at $1m to $1.5 a year for two yrs.

Oh I agree and I like Svech. Just don’t think it’s something to get bothered by. Likely he goes unclaimed and is a full time player after the deadline.

I do not see him being picked up. If we are one of the worst rosters in the NHL and he is a fringe player, just where would he be needed?
Maybe it its a move so Carolina picks him up and is then in cap hell and Stevie can relieve them of a good LD.

Svechnikov is a Kenny Holland draft pick. Not a Steve Yzerman draft pick. So he's not going to view him as highly as he would his son Adam Erne.

GM's like players they drafted. Generaliy speaking. Stevie might be trying to do Svechnikov a favour here. He's played reasonably well so perhaps a team might claim him on waivers. He gets a fresh start and maybe carves out a few more years in the NHL.

Or he clears and returns to being a tweener. Bouncing up and down from the AHL and NHL. Svechnikov was drafted 6 years ago. He's now a suspect instead of a prospect.
