I think Tkachuk is the best young power forward in the NHL.
I believe Chabot is the best young Canadian Dman and will be Canada's #1 Dman for the Olympics.
We don't know how good Stutzle can be. I like Ottawa, obviously, but I recognize that I have a huge bias. |

Tkachuk I agree with, although chabot is very good but Canada#1 guy is a stretch.theodore, pietrangelo and makar may have something to say about that. |

Can’t agree with Spatso the best Canadian defender, however, Chabot might be able to grow into that at some point. For now he is still figuring it. |

Those 3 players are a pretty even matchup. As a whole I would take Ottawa. Also with Vancouver’s numerous bad contracts I think Ottawa is better setup for the future. |

Yeah, I had a paragraph in my draft talking about the cap situation and how Ottawa is almost certainly in a better position to turn their young core into a competitive team. Took it out to keep focused on the question. Vancouver has really painted themselves into a corner. |

What would Ottawa pay to have both Tkachuk?

Teams generally don't like having brothers on same team. Can be incredibly disruptive to the dressing room balance. There are exceptions, the Sedins were great team leaders and a positive influence on everyone else.
Every team needs a power forward. Brady is the best young power forward in the league. Contenders also need an elite forward with speed, superior hand-eye coordination and the ability to think and execute at an intense pace. Sens fans hope that is Stutzle. Don't believe that two Tkachuks would be a better option than a team that included a Stutzle and a Tkachuk in the line up..

It would be tough to choose between the Canucks youth and Senators youth. Both include a number of interesting players.
I believe Chabot is the best young Canadian Dman and will be Canada's #1 Dman for the Olympics.
Unfortunately, neither team is developing their top assets. This is why despite being elite offensive talents, Hughes and Chabot remain defensive liabilities. They are both easily exploited. Its likely Hughes will be on team USA, but less likely Chabot will make Canada's team. This should give Canada an edge in the tournament.
I think Tkachuk is the best young power forward in the NHL.
I agree Tkachuk is one of the best young power forwards in the league. Its unfortunate his younger brother doesn't have the same edge. They are both great players but neither has the core skillset required for top line duty on a competitive team. |

Haven't watched many Sens games these last two years have you? Brady is mean and extremely talented. He drives play and generates shot attempts almost better than anyone else in the NHL. |

Mike, the comparison is unfair since the Canucks have a bonfide young gun goalchie in the mix and Ottawa has a signed goalchie as well. To keep it even up core wise, I'd compare:
Petterson,
Boeser,
Hughes, and
Demko
against
Tkachuk
Stützle
Chabot and
Murray |

Chabot would absolutley make team Canada. |

Chabot would absolutley make team Canada.
This is highly unlikely. Unfortunately for Chabot, Doug Armstrong is well aware Chabot's offensive flair does not counterbalance his lack of defensive acuity. Team Canada almost always selects solidly defensive rear-guards, leaving offensive production to their elite forwards. I cannot fathom Armstrong wasting much time contemplating Chabot. Chabot ranks behind many other Canadian defenders. Outside of the Ottawa market, Ellis, Reilly, Theodore, Makar, Letang, Pietrangelo, Girard and Spurgeon are rated above Chabot. I suspect there are a few others I am inadvertently omitting. It also would not be unusual for team Canada to bring back a few aging vets like Weber, Burns or Doughty. Thus, it seems apparent there will be no room for Chabot on Canada's Olympic roster. |

Pfft of course Chabot makes team Canada. Your going to feel silly when you see him leading canada in ice time. |

Dumb and dumber, on my part, if I keep reading. This bozo makes little sense. Going forward, I will not comment on anything he writes until he posts three consecutive comments that have some redeemable hockey merit. |

states Chabot's defensive struggles, then names Ellis as the first Dman that would be taken ahead of Chabot....
Can't make this poop up.
Chabot is virtually a lock to make team Canada, and just about every mock roster i've seen has him in the top 4....whether it's TSN, sportsnet, hockeynews, nhl.com, etc, etc, etc
your post just gets dumber and dumber as you continue to read. |

big difference is with ottawa you can add:
batherson
formenton
pinto
norris
brannstrom
etc
etc
Vancouver can't come close to matching that with their "2nd tier" young players |

lol. chabot the best d in canada, tkatchik is great, i think mathews is a bit better though
sens core better than vancouver, but these things you say are super home town bias

I'll take Colorado's young D core anyday. |

Tough call. VAN has the best young player in Pettersson, and a couple of other proven stars in Boeser and Horvat. Demko appears to be a building piece as well. Hughes gets a lot of hype, but is flat out awful. Truly a terrible defenseman
OTT has Tkachuk and Chabot, who are both pretty good. Who knows what Stutzle will become. Hasn’t blown anyone away this season, but he’s still so young. Outside of that, not much to be excited about. Goaltending is bad, and guys like Norris, Batherton, Docker are all “meh”
I’d probably rather be VAN right now. The X factor is that it’s OTT, so there’s a high likelihood of mismanagement, and having guys bolt as soon as they’re able |

If Ottawa adds Luke Hughes, Simon Edvinsson or Brent Clarke, they may easily have the best young D core 25 & Under:
(by age)
Thomas Chabot - Artem Zub
Victor Mete - Erik Brannstrom
Jonny Tychonick - Jacob Bernard Docker
Tyler Kleven - Lassi Thomson
Jake Sanderson - Brandt Clarke |
