Flyers don't need a rebuild, they need to do their best to use the assets they have to get better. We have seen a rebuild and it brought us to here, then you have teams like the Pens who have just added the right parts to stay relevant. Yes, yes I agree having Crosby makes it easier but they have good parts, Crosby didn't lift the team this year.
Look at the players they added, KAP, Carter, Zucker, Tanez and they hit on picks in the draft like a Guentzel.
Change up the core, overpay with assests to get the right player to add to the core. There will be 30 other teams, who didn't win the cup, looking for changes. |

I'm just really hoping the ones involved in the decision making aren't going to look at this as a one off season cause of the tight schedule and no practice time. This core has essentially done nothing in 10 years! I mean, they got hot last year before the shutdown and haven't looked the same since. I watched that Tampa/Florida playoff game last night and I'm thinking the Flyers would have had wind burn from getting scorched by the speed of those teams(not to mention the physicality). This team needs a complimentary defender to play with Provorov and a major upgrade at the forward position!! They are nowhere near fast and physical enough to play the style that AV wants! Thanks!! |

You’ve got to be kidding with this. We are not in the penguins situation, we should not be adding guys at the expense of our younger players or assets . If anything we should do the exact opposite of what you are suggesting. Take a lap. |

Yes we need to build but we also need a building block to build around. For along time that was Giroux, who in my opinion doesn’t see enough league respect in terms of hardware. Two Hart trophy missed opportunities, plus not even being nominated where a kid like Taylor Hall wins it and had something like eight or ten points less than G that season.
I love Couturier. We need Couturier to win, but G in his prime vs Coots in his prime. Giroux was way better. |

At even strength, however, Giroux had a fine year statistically. He produced 32 points. By way of comparison to other prominent NHL veterans, Giroux's even-strength output this season exceeded the likes of Nicklas Bäckström (31), William Nylander (31), Patrice Bergeron (31), Joe Pavelski (30), Blake Wheeler (29), David Krejci (28), Anze Kopitar (27), Jamie Benn (26), T.J. Oshie (26) and Alex Ovechkin (25).
So what? Giroux did NOT get it done. Again.
I don't care what his individual stats are, to be honest.
He's the Captain of this team, and the entire team under-achieved.

People really need to slow down with this nonsense, he’s the captain of a hockey team man, it’s not that serious. |

No where did I say add guys at the expense of the young guys, by now you know my posts, you should be able to use that for more context. I discuss making good hockey trades. Flyers have all of their picks, they have roster players, then they have kids throughout AHL, Juniors and college. There are ways to make deals to the current roster to fix the deficiencies. Teams win the cup not individuals. Coming into this season most thought Pitt would fall back, they didn't, mostly due to how they constructed their team around Crosby. Add in most said they had no assets, they had very little in the kid department but they did it. The example is they GET CHEMISTRY. I was going to end with a smart ass response to you, like you did for me, but I see no need to be negative, hope you have a good day. |

Some people treat the C as some mythical magical thing. Like they are the owner, coach, father, General manager all wrapped up in to one.

As the Captain, it's HIS responsibility to set the pace and dictate the game on the ice.
As the Captain goes, so does the team. This past season I saw a soft team who got pushed around a lot of times and a team that just didn't seem to care.
That's a problem.
On a different note, take a look at the +/- stats for this past season.
Pretty obvious who shouldn't be returning next season.... |

while I agree they played soft and the Captain should help drive the team, G played hard and you can not expect him to be the toughness, that falls on CF for the mix of players. Can't make chicken salad out of chicken shxt

I disagree. Giroux should get beat up every game because the players around him aren't playing good enough. |

I don't expect that, but I don't blame CF either.
If we're getting pushed around, some of our bigger, tougher guys should be the ones who stand up for their teammates. I didn't see much of that (unless Morin was in the lineup).
We got bullied this year, and that's not the GM or the coach's fault. That's a lack of player support for each other, and that's cultivated in the locker room and out on the ice.

& bill somehow forgot to mention that his olus minus was worse than most of those guys he listed. It’s like people are afraid to come down on G. I don’t know what kind of power he possesses but it’s like even if Bill says something negative about G he will follow it up with G didn’t get enough practice on the power play |

A bunch of giroux apologist & excuse makers. He hasn’t been leading by good example for years. Way past time to not have him be “your best player”. It’s even been a few years since he lead the team in points. Time to pass the torch & it shouldn’t be G getting all the ice time upfront. TK despite his poor season, farabee should be ahead of G |

Bill, just wondering about some of the prospects that did not have good seasons. I don’t think Rubtsov is coming back. I’m also thinking they may not QO Leberge and possibly Sandin. Do you agree or is there any other RFA’ s you see not getting contracts? |

Actually...the Flyers have never done a rebuild, in the traditional sense of the term, under Hextall they’d have peeled off a lot more players than just Brayden Schenn and sunk to the bottom, which they didn’t.
The organization needs to rebuild badly, they need to purge the older players, draft well, especially with two great drafts coming up beyond 2021, and develop from within.
There’s some good young players Hextall drafted, unfortunately no super-star players, which you need to compete for a Stanley Cup. Excited about York, looks to be a really good young defenseman. |
