Carol Schram: Benning to return, Demko begging for goalie coach, Sedins in the mix?
The Vancouver Canucks topped the Calgary Flames in their final home game of the season on Tuesday and will close out their schedule on Wednesday in Calgary. But the biggest news of the day surrounded the news that Jim Benning will be returning as the team's general manager, Thatcher Demko's plea for the return of goalie coach Ian Clark, and the prospect of Daniel and Henrik Sedin joining the club in a hockey operations capacity. |

Seattle franchise couldn't come at a better time. Finally, a second team to potentially cheer for that feels like a home team when your real home team smells and looks like a dumpster fire. |

Sedin's still live in Van (or area)?
Cautious tale about reliving the glory days and bringing in past stars outside of marketing opportunities and ticket sales. Ask the Oilers fans how well that worked. |

The pattern is, I think, guys who need to make an impression for next year vs guys who will earn millions no matter what. I’m sure guys have pride and all that but...
Would be hilarious if the didn’t actually play this game, and just rebroadcast an old one |

Yes, the Sedins are still here: their kids go to school here. A friend of mine spotted them out trail running a couple of weeks ago, as they do...

Thanks, Carol.
Glad to see Jim back, he’s a good hockey man. Sedins being back is awesome too, maybe this becomes the start of a reunion of the 2011 core?!
Thanks for shouting out Lockwood, I see him as the new Jannik Hansen potentially, fingers crossed! |

Jovo and Hansen have already been back doing media duty, makes sense. |

I was thinking maybe we poach Manny back from TO? Maybe give Burrows a job as an assistant or the head guy in the AHL? Maybe Luongo in a management position?
Kesler and Bieksa seem to be more media-focused so I don’t think they’re an option unless they want to learn the ropes as coaches, management, scouting or development staff?
Don’t understand why Canuck fans are so embarrassed about bringing back great players who are passionate and smart about hockey. Have some damn pride.
Sakic and Yzerman are two of the most loved GM’s, both ex-players |

So does this mean Cam Lawrence isn't going to be added to the staff? |

Gillis little pet project there about how an organization should be run. Is probably not a bad idea. It would just be a bit difficult to get so many heads all on the same page.
You want a someone that's good at drafting but also want someone who is good at the cap and someone who is good with the media.
Canucks have Jim who likes the drafting but it seems as if that is also John's likes too. If John does anything. |

Yes. That's why I asked. You're definitely the type the Canucks seem to hire. |

Chris Gear i thought was also a cap guy. Pretty sure that's why he was promoted so Benning and Weisbrod could go scout more. |
