On Alec Martinez:

It’s pie-in-the-sky, though, as his big 2021 season should catapult him to a cushy deal with a contender. Evolving-Hockey’s model has his most likely contract with a new team at four years, $5.8 million AAV, but projects him to cost more like $4.9 million AAV on a two-year deal. The Red Wings could afford that in terms of cap space, but they haven’t been especially aggressive bidders in free agency under Steve Yzerman, and that doesn’t appear likely to change this summer.

I was thinking Martinez $5mx2. Good, solid defender, not a lot of plash, +54 over 660 games. IF he wants to get close to home, this could work. Plus, he'd be a very strong influence on guys coming in mike McI (if he doesn't twist a hang-nail, and get a hammie ). I like the cut-n-paste form the Athletic, and it brings a good point: The Captain doesn't do too awful much in FA. BUT, at this point, I'd not be surprised of anything he does. Martinez would be a wonderful move.

I'd stay so far away from Fluery, you'd need Hubble to see me. The only way I'd even remotely entertain that is if LV retained ~the MAX retention allowed, and gave us a few gems (insert Martinez here???). Vegas is wallowing in aging players that will be hard-pressed to find homes in a normal season.

Someone always jokes about GMs way overpaying for players that were in a cup final. I honestly can’t remember who, but it’s absolutely right. I liked Merrill a lot. Would love to bring Tats back, even just for a year.
