Carol Schram: Hoglander gets some NHL Awards votes and more Van/TB/Mtl draft analysis In a year with one superstar rookie and plenty of other standouts, the Canucks' Nils Hoglander drew some attention in Calder Trophy voting. Plus, a look at how the Canucks' 2017 draft class stacks up against Montreal's and Tampa Bay's.

Fox made it perfectly clear that he had no intention of signing in Calgary. It’s a crappy rule but it applies to all teams.
You didn’t mention that Treliving picked him in the 3rd round after sneaking a peek at Bennings list.

Thanks Carol. Would love it if the Canucks could be more patient with their prospects so that when they do finally make the jump they can contribute. Lind and Gadjovic for instance aren’t NHL player, yet. Nice to get them a couple NHL pay cheques (weird, considering the budget this year) but let them play in the AHL until they mature. Rathbone would also probably be better served playing a full season of professional hockey in the A.

Assuming 2 RHD will be signed either or both trades & UFA we have Hughes & Schmidt as the Top 4 LHD. I prefer OJ & Bones to platoon on the 3rd pair. Given the opponent deciding who starts. Imo both are ready to play a role.

If Schmidt plays right side then both can start if the D play allows it being either injuries or earned. Not worried about the results as much as I’d like them to gain experience.

So much is predicated on what JB does on building the D.

The only reason either of those guys is “winning a job” is because there is a serious lack of NHL talent on the roster already.

Hopefully they make some low risk, short term moves to sign established NHL guys.

I want to see a big solid responsible defensive D partner for Hughes. Idc if resign Hamonic or a good UFA.

Expect a bounce back from Schmidt & paired with Myers they need to dominate better.

From OJ I want him to be steady & crisp passing & smart break outs.

Bones I believe will surprise ppl & his boomer a much needed weapon that’ll open more room for forwards & 2nd PP time.

Ideally one key RHD signing for Hughes & Hamonic 3rd pairing would satisfy me.

There are rumblings Chicago is working on a potential Duncan Keith trade to either the Pacific Northwest or Western Canada. Word is Keith and team are working together to get him to a place he wants to go. We will see where this goes.

From Friedman.

Man that’s got Benning written all over it.

Serious lack of RHD atm imo. Only 1 spot open on LHD & perfect for kids.

Yes low risk & about 2-4yr terms depending on who is sought. Hamonic 2 Savard 4 I like.

No. Aged small LHD is the last thing that’s needed.
