it's really hard to take you seriously when you can't even spell the name of Seattle's GM, who happens to be an NHL hall-of-famer who has been around the league since the 1980s. |

What you describe is not a conspiracy LOL. The only conspiracy is the fake news about injuries. Bergevin is pulling some triple reverse psychology next level thinking in a desperate bid to try to get Francis to take that awful contract, which wont work! "I darrrrrre you to take Carey Price....i becha you wonttt"...
Ek you are the bait, you are swallowing the propaganda hook line and sinker! (E5) More to come....

First off, the taxes in Washington State, while not Quebec level ugly, they are pretty ugly in their own right. Price sees a slight raise......
Second, there are three very good, young, healthy goalies to take instead of the winding down his HOF career Price. Driedger, Kahkonen and Vanecek would look like great set of promising goalies, and way less burdensome on the cap hit than Price's cost.
Third, I see Seattle looking to build a very talented 'young' roster predominately speaking. Yes, there will be that veteran player taken for leadership, but it won't be a goalie. Giordano looks like a solid choice in the leadership role...... |

Honestly Montreal Is really not that good and Carey Price Is 33 so what's the big deal? No current Habs player Is Irreplaceable. |

In my opinion, this may go down as the WORST decision/gamble ever made by the Montreal Canadiens. - Eklund
No, the worst decision ever made by them was Mario Tremblay leaving Roy in net for 9 goals.
Then there was the Sergachev for Drouin trade. And the McDonagh/Higgins for Gomez trade. And the Turgeon for Corson trade. And the Chelios for Savard trade. Those are the ones that come to mind.
This measures about a 3 on 1-10 bad decision scale. |

A real man wouldn't consult his wife about a major lifestyle change. He'd tell her to grab her rolling pin and pots and pans, wrangle the children up and load them into the car while he took care of manly stuff, like fighting a bear and cutting down a tree with his bare hands.
Actually, I like to imagine that Shea Weber fights a bear and cuts down a tree with his bare hands as warmup for his daily workout. |

Montreal would be far better off getting rid of Price's contract, but much like the Sabres, who left Skinner unprotected, there is no way Seattle takes that on with a declining player past his prime. |

As per capfriendly there is a significant difference in effective tax rate. 53% in Montreal vs 41% in Seattle. However Seattle cost of living and housing is much higher so property taxes will also be much higher. |

Price is a great goalie in the playoffs. Problem is the Habs have to actually get to the playoffs to have Price do what he can do. Last year they only made it as the 24th of 24 teams, this yr they backed in. They won't be able to do that next yr. |

Why not, is there some rule change? There is not, and the Habs can make the PO's, or not make them, just like every other team. It is why they play the season...... |

A couple of days ago this strategy was INSANE. Almost as INSANE as NYR getting Goodrow for merely a 7th.
Most people saw this coming. There is no conspiracy. Price is extremely overpaid. Sure he just had a god-like run, but have you watched him much over the last few years? He's about to turn 34 and this contract won't look good at age 37,38,39. Bergevin knows this. So does Price.
This is a win-win for all parties. If Seattle takes Price, then the fans applaud his sacrifice for the franchise. Allen stays. Bergevin finds a cheaper goalie and they enjoy the extra cap space. Maybe Bergevin takes a bit of heat, but in the end it would be viewed as genius. If Seattle takes another player, the fans applaud Price as a hero for taking a risk for the franchise. Bergevin also is applauded for his bold strategy that worked.
The only people falling for this are a number of media members and fans that don't understand how crippling it is to have a $10.5M goalie who is deteriorating.
But we'll know in 10 more days what Ronnee Frances has planned.
