Pretty sure only NMC are fully protected from expansion drafts. |

No he didn't.
The main concern from the Canes was the potential of losing Skjei AND Hamilton in the same offseason.
I think it's pretty easy to replace Skjei, especially at what he makes, but Brind'amour likes him for whatever reason. |

I can see that.. the price being Bean.. that is Duck level expansion work.

I don't think Bean is as good as Theodore.
He has the tools, but boy the kid has some confidence issues at times. He had real problems with Brind'amour took the training wheels off.
I hope he puts it together though. Seems like a good kid. |

You would think, but Francis has stated he's putting a premium on cap space and has always been a pretty conservative guy.
Bean has good fancy stats, is cheap, and was drafted by Francis. I could see him going either way but ultimately I think he takes Jake Bean instead of Nino.
Personally I'd pick Niederreiter. |

Thank you Mr. Obvious! Of course there could be alot of regrets about the expansion decision making but none of us have access to a crystal ball and It will be quite awhile before we know who did well and who didn't In this process. There Isn't a single Irreplaceable player Involved In the expansion draft. Remember, Gretzky played for 2 WHA teams and 4 NHL teams. |

I don’t see what people see in Bean to be honest. Sure he still has relatively high value due to potential, draft position etc. but he didn’t look particularly good in the sheltered role he played this season. A matter of fact he looked downright awful in the playoffs. Do I hope he puts it together sure obviously it would make justifying why and where he was picked. But would I be terribly upset seeing Seattle take him not really. Skeji over Bean is a no brainier IMO. Not saying Skeji is that great but he looked good in the playoffs particularly how well he stepped up in Slavins absence. Sure you’re losing a potential 2nd pairing PP specialist. Not to mention those problems you mentioned about Skeji could easily apply to Bean this past season. If you ask me which player I’d rather play 20 minutes a night for my team today it’s Skeji no contest. Pretty sure Ryan Murphy won an AHL dman of the year once too(don’t feel like actually checking). Do you take the sure thing or the potential of someone becoming better than that sure thing, is really the only question you have to ask. And for the Canes that are/should be in win now mode it’s a no brainer you take the sure thing. |

I concur protecting Bean. I’ve got him picked for the Kraken. |

I agree with Wolfpack5, and definitely ok with protecting Skjei over Bean any day. Bean has great potential but after that dreadful playoff showing, he still has a long way to go. Needs to add muscle and weight, and more game experience will help.

I also think they take Fleury from Anaheim. Francis has an opportunity to get a good mix of talent in several age groups. |

I think Seattle takes Bean as well as Fluery from Anaheim.
Both are Francis draft picks, both are still inexpensive, and can get better. Nino is still good but Seattle can take another player that will produce what Nino would do from another team and have Fluery and Bean for the future of the Kraken defense. |
