I’ve been binge watching Columbo. Just heard a fantastic line from a young William Shatner to the female costar in this ep. shatner playing an ego maniacal actor. . “You didn’t used to think I was so awful”. Response “I didn’t used to think”. |

Another fantastic write up Jeremy!!! I'm really intrigued to see what kind of magic Yzerman can work to fill this roster. Lots of options with all that space. I figure your right it'll probably be a lot of 1 year deals to RFA's and UFA's. Just keeps the flexibility for the future. Hronek should get 5m for 6 years in my opinion. He's been one heck of a soldier for us. |

Thanks for that! I have no issue locking up Hronek like that. He really became something special. With stronger defense backing him up he could continue to step forward. I feel the same with Larkin. If there’s another very good center in the mix, he’ll have some more breathing room out there. |

New Jersey looking to find a partner to take Subban. 1 year left at 9 million. Actual salary 8 million. 6 million bonus +2 million salary.
Would anyone here take him on, and what would have to be attached? Retained $ plus draft pick/prospect, etc?
I’m not overeager, but for the right deal anything is possible |

NJ gets our 6th, we get their 4th. We get their 29th, they get our 38th. We take on PK and his absurd salary.
Edit: And they give us Vukojevic or Okhotyuk |

I love it. L.A. is shopping their 8th pick. I wonder if they’ve called Stevie |

I’m not overeager either about Subban, i think he’s a bit of distraction for this young team unless he (Subban) found a new look on life. He’s ready to host some sort of TV game show. |

I will say this. All athletes care about their legacy. Nashville and New Jersey plugged him in to all the extra media outlets that took away from the player. They sold Duchene on helping his country music career. I think if Yzerman brought him in, he’d want to be flipped to a contender (and if his salary was twice retained it would be an easier sell). Markets keep selling athletes on the “stuff” instead of the hockey. That’s not what you want someone’s frame of mind to be. Most of these guys will retire in or before their 30s. Plenty of time to do the other stuff. Sell them on being a pro |

For an unprotected ‘22 or ‘23 first, sure.

Sorry, my head is freaking out. The cost to take Subban, for you, would be NJR first round (non lottery protected) pick? I’d do that all day if I’m reading it right.
I really like that drop. NJR can get pieces in and still a potentially top 10 pick coming back. Nice |

He will be missed. Bernier was so key to stability and the wins the team managed. Negotiations must have fizzled or he was told he wouldn’t be back. I wonder who Yzerman has his eyes on

Very possible. I know that some contracts are being worked on. This is near the time of year where players can be told they will be hitting the open market. I don’t think the Wing’s office is going to sleep for a while. Draft coming fast, probably getting and making calls on draft picks and players. Then free agency. |

they need a stud goalie. now they are just jumping from goalie to goalie and not developing anyone. bernier, greiss, whose next? raanta, reimer,etc... |

Personally i would prefer Kevin Bahl. Guy can skate for a 6'6 player and move the puck.
I would only make that deal if i had another one lined up to move PK somewhere else with salary retained. No point in having PK playing for the Wings with Hronek, Seider, Lindstrom and maybe Stecher (if not picked by Seattle) already for the right side. |

Trade for Mads Sogaard from the Sens...they have way too many goalies as is and they are stuck with Murray for a while. |

SO, here's where I'm at (and those who've read what dribbles out of my fingers are just about to pass out......); Bernie's gone. Pickard isn't a suitable 1A/B, so draft Wallsdtedt @ #6, or trade up for Cosaa further down a bit. The cupboard's bare with the Gas-Man pulling out, Fulcher needs seasoning like a bad Omaha steak, there's just nothing there so something has to give.....much to the chagrin of those who assert that teams avoid high-drafting a G like the plague.
JUST my thoughts, no one knows what deals lurk in the heart of The Captain.

Gustavsson & Merilainen as well......The Sens are dealing with a log-jam on the G-side...

Yesterday there was a Klingberg rumor up for trade, not sure where the rumor is headed but an interesting fit for Detroit if, big if. |

Yep and they are not the only team that might have/already have a log-jam in net. With the amount of goalies always available on the UFA market and teams having log-jams now or in the future, the Wings should be able to trade for a good young goalie at some point which is why i wouldn't use a top 10 pick on a goalie. |

Problem is (for the Wings anyways) Klingberg is a righty which would only add to the logjam. I guess it could work if Yzerman traded Hronek for a good young LD but they would have to re-sign Klingberg who is set to become a UFA after this season. |

Everyone needs to stop looking at LD vs RD. The previous cup runs used to have all LD or only one RD. Some players prefer playing the opposite site.
We need to focus more on getting NHL talent rather than be concerned if they're RH. |
