I’m dreaming of an OEL and Garland trade for DeBrusk, whatever prospect they want, this year’s first, ++

Ughhhhh...I'm frigging sick over this ...although once Seattle took Leach I knew Lauzon would be snatched up. I know Jeremy was far from perfect but the kid played his rookie season on the TOP pairing against the top lines and held up pretty well. With Miller retiring he was the only defenceman left with a bit of jam to his game. Now we've got a very small and very soft blueline. The only D with some size is Carlo and he finds a way to make himself vulnerable 2/3 times a year and misses key time. If I were Sweeney, I'd have protected Lauzon over Gryzelcyk and if Seattle had taken Gryz, simply replaced him with Yandle or someone else on a value contract. I think Lauzon has more value with his size, age and stay at home ability than Gryzelcyk and his lack of size. Too many small D, no ability to clear the front of the net or protect the crease/goalie. This has repeated itself for 3 consecutive years.
I wish Lauzon the absolute BEST and really think he'll develop into a very solid top 4 defenceman. |

Yeah I agree we have some holes to fill by losing Lauzon & Miller (I was hoping Seattle would take Clifton), but...
You don't think MacAvoy has "jam"?
Did you not see the hits he threw during the playoffs?

McAvoy attempts in many cases to play bigger than he is (he's not huge by any means) and in some cases it costs him. I would rather he remain in the line up and get some real actual big bodies to throw the hits. |

I was thinking the exact same thing yesterday about Don protecting Grz. He is skilled and maybe still has some room to grow offensively, but Lauzon is more complete defensively. I would have liked to have exposed Gryz.
Don has to bring in some meat and potatoes. Although there is a fine line, as you really need the puck movers just how the game has transitioned to. The old plugs that can’t move the puck are no good either. |

Mcavoy can throw a hit...but doesn't have a lot of upper body strength. Watch him try to move bodies from in front of the net and out of the crease...he gets overmatched regularly. Love him as a player and dont get me wrong, he developed as the key weapon on the blueline last year, but how many times in the past 2 seasons have you seen him not able to control a player driving to the net and running Rask (or mcavoy steering him into Rask?) He just doesn't have the size/strength to handle the bigger guys and Lauzon will be missed here the most. I love Mac but his game isn't nor should it be the physical shut down guy |

Totally agree with this...would rather have a healthy Mac leading the offense rather than getting in over his head and manhandled. He can dish out some good checks but is overmatched by the majority of NHLers size and strength wise

You brought up "jam" which McAvoy has in plenty. He can hit and also has a bit of a mean streak.
But ya wanna talk size too..
McAvoy 6'0 208 lbs
Lauzon 6'1 204 lbs
Gryz was protected because we need a PP QB. Can't have McAvoy doing 5vs5 + PP + PK.
I did admit we DO need to replace the size lost in Miller - but it better not be a large plug.

I never said Lauzon was huge but he did have more upper body strength than McAvoy. However, Lauzon was one of our "bigger" bodies and that's a problem. Carlo needs to add about 20lbs upper body strength which will help him clear out bodies and might (should) help him be less "fragile".
The back end needs a Miller (size with skating ability...who's healthy!). |

Clifton might be shorter but he still plays with some "jam". Clifton and Lauzon had identical stats last year. It's actually pretty crazy how identical all of the main stats were. Clifton had a solid edge in hits but everything else was the same.
Anyways, losing Lauzon is not the end of the world. He is young and did start with McAvoy but he was kind of lousy towards the end of the year.
