Carolina lost a lot of the team’s future this week, Nedeljkovic, Bean & Geekie. I’m sure there’s a plane here. ???

I’m actually relatively neutral on the Bean trade. I think realistically that’s about the best return they get for him. But the question remains about the plan for this years roster. If Dougie was signed and they wanted to go with a more traditional bottom pairing that doesn’t need to be sheltered as much but doesn’t produce anything I think it makes sense. Also I feel like the perception of Bean is a lot higher around the league than Carolina’s perception of him whether it be fans or teams. Long story short it doesn’t make me feel as bad as the Ned trade initially but I don’t particularly feel great about it either. Which typically suggest a fair trade.

Edit:anyone else feel like they’re trying to complete the purge of RF drafted players?

Did I miss some news?

Looks like an "Everything must go" clearance sale in Carolina.

Don Waddell is looking more and more like a company yes man with Mr. Analytics Tulski calling the shots. We will see if it turns out like Oakland in baseball with some surprisingly good teams but no championships. At some point you need to discard the analytics and go all in to get over the top.

Panthers went through that a few years back when Tom Rowe temporarily replaced Dale Tallon. That's how we got Keith Yandle on a 5-year contract with full NMC. Panthers bought him out a week ago.

I really liked Bean a lot. Don’t understand this at all. Do they have a logjam on D?

I think Dundon is broke!

Ok, he’s not broke. But it fairly well known that as far as professional franchise owners go, he is far from the wealthiest owner. This is why the Habs tried to pull a fast one on him by signing Aho to a super front-loaded offer sheet previously in hopes he couldn’t pay the bill.

Now he’s letting some very promising young players go (due to contract uncertainty?) and getting little in return. The ‘Canes were borderline contenders, and this is not the time to cheap out on a roster. COVID was hard on organizations, no doubt. And Dundon literally just purchased the franchise in full less than a month ago. But I think he’s out of pennies, and he may have sealed his fate to be a short-term owner if he’s going to be forced to ice a sub-par product in a market which will need to be competitive to be profitable.
That’s just my take on this, but the moves don’t make a lot of sense at the moment... especially with the big fish still waiting on contracts, or trades?

Dundon is not broke. He just has business philosophies that are not contract friendly. He also has a sidekick in Tulski that relies heavily on analytics and if the analytics say that this guy is worth x, that is all he is getting offered. The eye test does not seem to be part of the evaluation. Fan appeal is definitely out of the equation. With this philosophy of business, the lesson for fans is don't get too attached.
