There are ‘rumors” of Danault signing with Detroit. Once I get something concrete I’ll add it. Early in the summer NBC sports thought it would be a good idea for a team to sign both Danault and Tatar. What do you all think? I’d love to see Tatar back, but I have to believe he wants a chance to win |

If Yzerman is serious about making the team a bit more competitive to help the young players grow, he needs to add a decent top 6 center that will help the offense. Wings likely have a couple of years before one develops unless Veleno takes big steps forward real quick.
Danault i have no problem with the player but likely wants too much term and money.
Kuznetsov has a NTC but i could see him being ok with the Wings and offensively probably the best option (that is known to be available aside from Eichel) and he has great chemistry with Vrana already.
Wennberg could be a decent short term option.
Krejci and Stastny could also be decent short term options.
There are rumors that Eric and Mark Staal want to play together but Eric is not the answer to the 2nd line center position even short term. At this point in his career he isn't much better than Nielsen or Filppula and we know they are not real 2nd line centers. |

Hey Jeremy.
Disappointed to hear there are no voices chiming in here supporting your view. Must be the taste left over from Holland’s first round clunkers (Cholo, Szech). Yzerman has 100% earned a “stfu till 2024” position before dumping on him. Seider appears to be a beast, Raymond looks good too, and ... TBL are 2-time defending Champs.
I believe !
Wait and see before crapping on his work.
I love both 1st round picks |

Danault could be our new Frans Nielsen! |

I’m with you on the draft. I liked what Stevie did bolstering an already strong defense with size and skill. I’ve known all along they were targeting a goalie which makes total sense in this crazy draft year. This team continues to look stronger and stronger down the road. I might have taken Eklund, but I’m down with their decision.
Staal was a good resigning. He had a solid year last season and was instrumental in the defensive bounce back.
Stay the course, and let’s go Wings!

Jeremy Laura: Staal back for 1 more year at $2m/NMC - Jeremy Laura
J, I posted for Edvinsson or Eklund at #6, and Walstedt or Cossa with the 2d 1st (Cossa be preferred because I thought Wall would be gone by #22. I’m WHOLLY content with our 1sts, brother. I’ve been screaming for a G in the 1st (although I softened that view a bit over time).
No on knows how this plays out. Your assessment is spot-on; we won’t know until ‘23-24 at the earliest. I think the future just got a whole lot brighter. Ned & Cossa will be a very strong tandem, Mo Sides w/Hronek & Mr. Ed on the blue line???? YES PLEASE!!!
Staal. Hmmm….I threw up in my mouth a bit when the 1st few games were played and he looked like “the house on the side of the road” (thanks to Ernie Harwell…). As time went on, he became a stable force on the back end. A 1yr deal works, price is about tight. Still a metric boat-load of cap-space to do whatever needs to be done. I foresee a signing for a C forthcoming. If the Danault rumors are true, I’d call that a VERY good off-season. Very good. |

Staal is a spare part at best, IMO. Stecher absolutely carried that pairing last year.
Not thrilled about bringing him back, but considering it's one year and we aren't making the playoffs regardless the damage is minimal. |

Quite possible with the contract he might get. |

With regards to Deangelo, he has let Yzerman down once before doubt he will give AD the chance to do it again. |

Staal has been one of the worst defencemen in the league for the past 5 years. |

Sorry I’ve been away for a few. I’ll try and do a one lump response here. On Danault, I have no idea if there is merit to that “leak”. I do trust Yzerman not to overcommit resources. Last year, the second line was good for a few games before it fell apart. Zadina/Fabbri/Ryan were clicking. We’re looking at Rasmussen locking down the third line. IF Glenny is back, there’s your 4th line and top PK again. If Ryan doesn’t come back, the second line could be Fabbri/Danault/Zadina with Bertuzzi/Larkin/Vrana on the top line (assuming no one is dealt). Down to the third pair you’re probably looking at Rasmussen/Erne/Svech (?). Glenny/Nielsen/Smith. Berggren and Veleno are coming in hot to try and take a job. Raymond, I can’t see a scenario when he doesn’t start in GR. Berggren needs time on small ice. IF Veleno can grab a spot on the wing it would be nice. His center work is really struggling. Berggren, so far, is better as a center. I don’t mind Veleno on the wing. He’s fast and creative. If those three are on a line in GR I’ll probably make the trip a couple times down the 96 corrido.
As far as Staal goes, he really helped “settle” things down. Stecher is way more mobile, but on the ice and in the room Marc really helped sort through a mess. I expect Leddy to do some of the same. Pair them with good skaters, and all three on the right side so far can do that. It’s a very different look (again). It’s like the right side is the “party side” and the left side is the “in bed by 9” side. MsIsaac is the young face on the left side. IF he can stay healthy it would be nice to see a full campaign out of him.
In free agency, I wouldn’t mind seeing another defenseman picked up. Deke is going to be on IR at some point (not trying to be a jerk, just reality). If there is a strong winger and/or center available that would be nice too. I think the team will be better already. But, still bottom 10. Depending on what CBJ does, they and Buffalo could really be rough. NYR is loading up and the kids are a year older. Nashville and AZ could both be in rough shape. There are teams that look to be in the tank for first overall next summer.
Back to the draft, I’m still at “set the timer”. Seider made huge strides quickly, and that was impressive. We’ll see Raymond up close this year (at least in GR). Johansson needs a strong season, but I expect him next year in North America. Younger and younger pieces are trickling in. One of Veleno or Berggren (if not both) should have a chance to make the club at the beginning of next season. That’s all I’ve got for now. Some of you know that storms make some of my head injury stuff worse. We had tornados 8 miles north last night with lightning and flash flood warnings. I feel hung over but never made it to the party! Days like this, I put on a blindfold for a few hours at a time to help my head reset. We’ll get there! I truly love all you guys (but you can’t have my coffee/beer) and you make this the highlight of my day. Thanks to all |

** - Mark Easson listed Tyler Johnson as a possible buyout candidate. If his salary is really lower, I still love that kid. I know he doesn’t move the needle for a lot of people any more. Still wouldn’t mind getting him.
I’m not giving up on possible Detroit buyouts, but not hearing much. Nielsen and Dekeyser would be top candidates, but both deals expire this year. May be better just to ride it out |

I don't mind the Staal signing one bit. I'm wondering if Stevie will show interest in Jake Virtanen. I would guess Wednesday Yzerman is signing a few people. 2 forwards and a defenseman? |

Yeah Yzerman should show some interest in him. His numbers aren't that bad considering he's been in Buffalo for awhile. LD though right? I could see Yzerman making a pitch for him.

with staal, bringing in leddy, seider coming over and resigning hronek/lindstrom there is 7 defenseman not counting newpower.
Staal,Leddy,Dekeyser,Stecher,Seider,Hronek,Lindstrom
maybe he signs one more ? |

Possibly yes. Who's the odd man out of the 7 we have right now? DD or Lindstrom?
Leddy Hronek
Staal Stecher
DD Seider

Kind of missed you mentioning Tatar here. I would give a hard pass on Tatar coming back to the Wings even if it was short term and low cost. He adds nothing coming back. Seems to ride the press box a lot if his team is in the playoffs. Let Toronto have him lol |

If he signs one more it has to be someone they can waive to GR unless they plan on carrying 8 defensemen. Everyone else would have to clear waivers to be sent down. |

Seider wouldn't require waivers though right? Newpower will be in GR.

DD Seider - TheSeer
I really don't like a Leddy Hronek pairing. It sounds like a defensive disaster in the making. I would much prefer:
DD - Hronek
Leddy - Seider
Staal - Stecher/Lindstrom
Much better balance of offense/defense this way. |

I'll go with that. My concern question is will DD be able to stay healthy next season? Say he doesn't the d pairs change dramatically. Because we know how the injury bug loves the Wings.

Staal is slow, but good defensively. Meh, on this signing. Stevie is doing him a favor so he can get his 1000 games and retire.
McCabe is tough....yeah, that is about it. Staal and him will clear the net front. But I think the league is going to crack down on cross-checking, which are these two's favorite weapon. Yeah..... |
