Reportedly Bernier did not want to sign with Carolina. |

Unfortunately he contributes about a third of the comments on this thread. It is normally a ghost town in here. Some ill-advised comments are better than nothing. |

This was a downgrade.
Ned is younger and has a lot more upside. He gave the team solid quality starts in the playoffs.
Andersen is/was a great goalie playing in front of a dumpster-fire Leafs defense. He's not getting any younger and you know what you are getting with him. Ned still has room to get better.
I just don't understand most of Carolina's offseason moves. The goalie situation was a downgrade (IMO) and the other moves seemed to be lateral moves that didn't really improve any position.

Meh I think they are just as good or better in goal. I’m glad to have Ned but he is far from guaranteed to be a legit NHL goalie. He let in some bad ones against Tampa. |

It just seems like a lateral move. To replace both parts of a tandem with different pieces that aren't clear upgrades. Yeah, Ned let in a couple of softies, but I know you've seen Andersen let in some weak ones. Swap Ned for Andersen in that series and I think you get the same result.
Raanta is better than Mzarek if he can stay healthy, IMO.

They went with the safer bet in Andersen and Ned wasn’t their goalie of the future anyways. Still they need to find more scoring to beat Tampa or the Islanders. |

I agree. Mrazek has his ups and downs, but he's got what the other 2 don't, if he stays healthy and focused. |

Always been a Mrazek fan. When he’s on he’s elite. Wonder if Toronto could get him working with like a sports psychologist to help him with consistency. |

i think the biggest thing for Petr is a consistent workload. Every time he gets banged up and has to sit he seems to have to build back up to being good again. It's like he gets bored in the middle of the season and falls asleep. |

Getting rid of Alex N is a huge mistake that Canes will regret for the next 10 years. |

I'd agree that Andersen behind the CAR skaters will be much better than his past few seasons. I don't know how much of an effect it could have, but he is also out of the Toronto media market, so there may be a bit less external pressure. |
