Carol Schram: The Canucks' 2021-22 Schedule and the 2022 Olympic hockey tournament format A look at the Canucks' training camp and preseason schedule, and how the All-Star Game and Olympics are set to fit into the 2021-22 regular season, which returns to 82 games and the usual divisional format.

Nice to start the preseason against a bad team like the Kraken and follow it up with a worse team the Flames.

You heard me right Kman

Hey Carol, I tend to think that this is going to be how the Olympics keeps the NHL in from now on. A short 3-4 day tournament would be easier to schedule a break in the NHL schedule than a full 7 day round-robin + elimination tournament especially if the Games are in Europe or Asia where the timezone isn't ideal for NBC/ESPN/SN

As for the Canucks, I'm actually looking forwards to the start of a close regional rivalry with the Kraken. I know a LOT of Seattlites were Canucks fans, and it'll be interesting to see how divided the crowds are in Rogers Arena and Climate Pledge Arena are. Might make for a better game even if both teams are mediocre but the crowd is rowdy.

A lawyer for a former Chicago Blackhawks player has asked the U.S. Center for SafeSport to investigate Blackhawks and U.S. Olympic team GM Stan Bowman for allegedly covering up the sexual abuse of two former Blackhawks players.

Maybe Bowman should get Bergevin's PR lawyer, seems like he got off light for drafting the guy that took sex pictures of his ex and showed it to his teammates.

Thanks Carol, I’ve heard some members of the media suggest a move to summer olympics, so that they don’t have an interruption to their season. Like Basketball, which is also a “winter” sport. Sure, it would mean some infrastructure changes for venues, but it would allow full participation by the worlds best athletes in the sport.

I had no problem watching players that weren't in the NHL last time around. Couldn't make the NHL, well here's your consolation prize, you have a chance at olympic medal.

I think that wouldn't work, the Summer Olympics typically start just as the SC playoffs end, I doubt the players that got that far would want to play in that case (or be able to due to injuries).

Plus another reason to claim injury so you can put a higher salary player on LTIR.

Edit: Think about how great it would be, team of a certain player is playing really well and firmly in a playoff spot top of the league. "oh no" he's injured himself at the olympics, won't be back till the first night of the playoffs exactly. Bam huge cap space.

Disagree, that’s only two teams, and if the players really want to represent their country, they’ll extend their season another couple weeks.

If the Olympics raises the cap I could see my way to agree.

That's a lot to ask players that have broken their bodies to try and win the hardest trophy to win in sports.

Do you believe Sidney Crosby, Conner McDavid, Mark Stone etc wouldn’t have been chomping at the bit to participate in an Olympic tournament this summer if it was an option?

Players who are on the fence will always be on the fence.

Sure, but they didn't even make it out of the first round or even made the playoffs in some cases. You think Hedman, Stamkos, Vasilevskiy and even Kucherov are gonna want to (or be able to go) and have any gas left in the tank? I mean if the Olympics were in late August/early September then yeah, maybe that would work and even be a great way to get into shape before training camp but right after the playoffs? Might as well just do the World Cup of Hockey instead of preseason hockey.

Again, it’s only two teams who are significantly affected, instead of 32. And yes, I think all those guys would be up for playing for their country.

I’m not saying it would work, only that I think it would work better than trying to cram it into the regular season as they are doing now.

Worked for the NBA.
Devin booker went to the finals, lost in 6 and went to Tokyo.
