If tkachuk accepts offer sheet to st.louis. ottawa should offer sheet petterson! (frank) it!. This situation is pissing me off already. Melnyk already (frank)ing things up. Again!

Are you surprised by Melnyk though? I doubt it. That's why anyone who thinks Melnyk isn't sticking his nose into personnel decisions behind the scenes is delusional!

Blues would have to trade Tarasenko to create cap space for Brady!

Blues arent offer sheeting Tkachuk lol. Theyd only do it if his dad can use his weight to get him under contract with the sens pronto. There is no scenario where the blues can get him to sign an offer sheet that the Sens cant match. The only way to event tempt them not to match is to make the offer so big that youre giving up multiple 1st round picks. They got cap space and im sure actual money wether they enjoy spending it or naught. The whole Blues offer sheet bs is EKS lazy ass way of getting clicks. Instead of pe ning a legitimate article about something hockey related, he chooses to make up bs rumors.

Blues do not have their 2022 2nd so they can only offer sheet Brady $10,276,830+ for 4 firsts which OTT would not match or $4,110,733 - $6,166,096 OTT matches and thank STL or $2,055,364 or less and OTT matches and French kisses the STL GM.

Blues also only have 1.5M in cap space with Roberts still left to sign even with Tarasenko gone that is only 9M and they cannot offer sheet Brady for 9M because they do not have their 2022 2nd

Training camp begins in 10 days. While I realize this is a baseball analogy, the Sens better get a mitt and get in the game already... Tired of the waiting and this game of chicken, which causes some people to issue 'wild' rumors.

I think Brady's a good fit. Give him the term he wants (3 or 6-8 years) at a reasonable AVV, and the 'C'. If he ends up bailing out in 2-3 years' time then the joke's on him for not living up to it (the 'C'). We've been w/o a captain for what - two full seasons now??

Dorion is being set up & he's taking the bait... He's going to trade a potential #1C + 2rd draft choice for a player that produced 20 points in his last 108 games

A second and Brown for Fischer? I’d do that. How much more did Arizona want in the offer they made before Dorion countered with that?

Yup. True, blue #1 center who’s played in a whopping 30 NHL games FIVE years after being drafted. We’d be lucky to get anything for him at this point. Brown has next to ZERO value at this point.

And don’t counter with, well he’s battled injuries and was never given a fair chance. Cuz that only supports the argument that he has no value. In five years he’s never been able to crack the lineup of a horrible Ottawa team, and he’s injury prone on top of that. Absolutely. I’m sure everyone in the league is lining up to trade big name assets for this incredible #1C.

Oh! I’m stupid. You obviously went AHL #1C. Cuz that’s all he is at this point in his career.

If the deal gets done enjoy watching Christian Fischer. He's a big grunt that can skate typical DJ player. Hell be part of the hard to play against Sens. Wow!

I hope they figure out L.Brown. i would like to see him get 20 games to truly evaluate him.
Theres some valid reasoning as to why a bridge deal with Brady makes sense. Ive been on the long term side. So to throw this out what about 8.1 x 5. Buys a couple ufa years and gives brady another chance at a big contract . Plus gives the Sens a captain for next 5. I think a captain is needed

Armstrong will offer Brady the 10 plus to get a 23 year old, and he will give Tarasenko away to get him, even if Thomas has to be part of the package! He was ready to give the 10.4 to Makar, but the Av's promised him the world!

The most interesting post I have seen on the subject is the indication that the Rangers would prefer Tkachuk over Eichel and would include Lafreniere in the package. I think I would be open to doing that deal.

me too.

In reality I don't know if I would do that - because of the stakes - but if that trade actually went down, no one could say it's not a fair deal

Make no mistake. Love Brady and his game.

But if he were on a high skilled team (eg., Lightening, Oilers) would he be in the position where he would be talking $8mx8?

nope
he'd be a Casy Czasikis type player or a Matt Martin.

Hockey News yearbook has the Sens finishing 6th in the Division.

Can't argue too much with that, although I think they can challenge for a playoff spot if things go right, but its a tough division to begin with. Certainly think they can at least finish 5th.

If they were in the Pacific Division, would they be a playoff team?

I, as have all sens fans I'm sure, have been conflicted with this drawn out negotiation. After much thought and deliberation I've come to the following opinion on what's going on. Brady is positioning himself to move on as soon as he reaches UFA status. The only thing he has interest in signing is a three year bridge deal with escalating yearly amounts. This would mirror Matthew's bridge deal where he has a salary of $9M in the final year and one final year of RFA status left. He doesn't have an interest in anything other than a one year. Calgary then has to qualify him at $9M or trade him. This, I believe, is the same tactic used (by the same agent) with Mark Stone. It's probably the same tactic used by this agent in the Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes negotiations. With Canada's high tax system this gets them to the U.S. and a preferred team in the quickest means possible. And the press/fans will blame Melnyk saying he's too cheap to pay him when, in real fact, he can't offer enough money to retain the player. This tactic will be/ has been used against the other Canadian teams including the Maple Leafs (see Matthews). They had to overpay for 1 year of UFA. In conclusion I hope I'm wrong and that Brady will sign long term because he wants to be part of what's going on in Ottawa.

Despite my concerns at 'C', I don't think 5th place or even 4th place is out of the question for this group... IF they actually put their best team on the ice right out of the gate this year, which includes having Tkachuk signed. Montreal has taken a couple of major steps back, the Bruins are pretty mediocre outside of their top line, and Toronto will be contending with a massive amount of pressure. Meanwhile, there are very few players in Ottawa would couldn't reasonably exceed their 2020/21 performance, including their high-end core talent. If they can just add another piece to strengthen themselves down the middle (e.g. Trocheck), they could be a major darkhorse team.

If Murray plays like he did before he got injured at the end of last season, Sens could push for a spot. If he's just average, Sens will be around 20th.
