Not really. It’s basically exhibition. 2 wings got knocked out with some nasty shots that didn’t need to happen. I get playing hard for a job, but this was nasty. Ellis was brilliant in net, Cossa was, well, not. Very glad they didn’t have Seider in this. Guys taking runs all over the ice with some stick work at the end not a great look |

Sooooo….someone gives an opinion on a game and it’s “sour grapes”? Pray, tell; how so? God forbid someone give an honest review of a game that conflicts with the view of another, which results in constructive dialogue. So, in the interest of constructive dialogue; what views that Jeremy put forth were inaccurate? Why were the inaccurate?
I’ll wait…….

It was bad. 2nd period was best for Detroit. Kids got worked over and Cossa lost himself. Veleno tried to make things happen, Raymond had some good looks. Overall pretty rough |

I didn’t watch tonight; watched recording of U of M play. Had to buy a car with my daughter today…..sounds like that 5 hrs was more fun that watching the Wings 😖😖.
I can understand guys wanting to make an impression, but if there’s a rick of intentionally inflicting injury, the league needs to do something about it. The crappy part is that Bergy’s down now. Would love to see Smith throw hands in a situation like you described.
Disappointing about Cossa, but isn’t this his 1st N. American game? If so, whilst disappointing to see how poorly he played, could be understandable. Then again, not watching tonight, I can only assume (along with the implications of the word understood….).
Hope the kids regroup for tomorrow!!! |

Nice! I am sure the kids will be motivated. More than anything, this will help
Cut down on “soft” plays. Veleno tried to rally, Sebrango tried to stick up for the guys. Cossa will definitely learn from this. If they come out and play with pace and a little more grit, it’s a good lesson learned. STL had their number from the drop and Detroit never recovered |

Soooo...someone comments on an opinion/observation by the author and states their opinion/observation and it's not valid??? I watched the game just as the author had and I saw it differently than he. Listening to the homers announcing the game isn't how I would ascertain how the blues played. Go cry, this is hockey. |

The Blues roster consisted of Blues prospects and overage junior players, not “Career AHL (or lower) players” as the author asserts. I am always suspect when a writer deals in generalities and not specifics. Lazy writing in my opinion. The story of the game was how bad Detroit’s goalie looked. |

I was at the game, didn't see the broadcast so I don't know what they showed. But there was a lot more dirty stuff happening away from the play that probably was missed because there were only two cameras. Several times it looked like a deliberate attempt to injure. I sure hope those weren't NHL officials, they were not up to the challenge.
Just an opinion of someone that was at the game........ |

The blues played a strong game, with many after the whistle hits. Is that the type of specific example you need? The blues play heavy, but speed and skill typically will win in the long run. If these players are the blues future, enjoy the present. |

How ‘bout an exchange of ideas, Sparky? Something like: “You said that Team X was fighting all the time. But you failed to mention the coaches leaving the bench and tripping out players…” or some such. Jeremy had specific incidents (granted he may not have used names, but gave incidents..) but all that was posted as a counter-point was “Sour grapes.” How constructive, informational, exact……right, “lazy” writing.
Dude, I got people have “opinions”, but not providing a specific counter-point? Doesn’t enhance an open exchange of ideas in an constructive manner. Everyone’s protective of their team, that’s expected. Maybe Jeremy could throw a name or 2, but the counter-point could have done that as well, which (in my opinion) would’ve advanced a discussion.

Am hoping last night opens the eyes of some of the kids. We’ve talked about this numerous times; the N. American game is vastly different than Europe (and, conversely, the AHL is vastly different than the NHL). Will be interested to see what the kids do tonight.
Physical play is expected, but intent to injure, or repeated “dirty” plays should gain the attention of the League…the same league that allowed Fudas (“fudas” = Franked up, dumb, and stupid; intentional mangling of said. player’s name….)to decapitate Glennie last year 🧐😖 |

I also agree that there is a lot of butthurt in this summary. The Berggren hit wasn't that dirty. Being 180 pound wimp has something to do with it. You can all marvel at his skill, but small guys are going to be run. Draft bigger then. Also in previous years Detroit had prospects running guys, fighting, and we all got excited about so and so being the next McCarty. But now that the tables are turned its butthurt about dirty play. Also, nice overreaction on Cossa. So anyone who opposed the pick is now vindicated? |

Thanks for the recap Jeremy, fun read and probably spot on. Too bad we could not weed out the trolls comments. Thanks again and your still one of best bloggers on HB and keep up the good work. Negative comments are allowed but some of this garbage is uncalled for. Take care. |

Opinion pieces should generate discussion, not humiliation. From my point of view, we as a society have lost the ability to have an open dialogue regarding differences of opinion. So we (collectively) allow ourselves to be dismissive of other’s opinions. We may not like what others have to say, but engaging in retorts such as “sour grapes much.” while failing to provide adult counter-points doesn’t advance discussion. Just my opinion.
Now, to your points above; Bergy is small, for sure. Good advice regarding drafting bigger guys. Seems that the Wings often draft smaller forwards (generally speaking, & substantiating your point above). Kids are getting bigger, so it’s inevitable that we’ll draft larger forwards over time. The game is faster & the hits are harder, so size means a lot. Good point.
I was an advocate for drafting Goalies where ever, when ever. Many here disagree with that. Jeremy’s point was that a game like Cossa played last night could vindicate those who don’t advance the opinion to draft Goalies in the 1st round. I don’t think it’s an overreaction, necessarily. But….opinions. I still think Cossa will be a stud, and that complete vindication of advocating taking him in the 1st will take some time; either it was a good move, or bad. Gonna take time. |

So what you are saying is maybe don't disparage the idea of taking a goalie in the middle of the first round based on a single, meaningless, prospect game. Makes sense to me.

A 180lb wimp, huh? He returned to the ice after his injury, but the team pulled him off. He's the average weight for players his height and age...actually a tad heavier. It's not fair for you to evaluate him though, because we all know there's never been a player with your combination of skill and toughness...it's just not a fair comparison. I'm deeply sorry that your feelings have been hurt by Jeremy's post. I can't imagine what you're going through, but we know how important feelings are to some, so we're praying for a full recovery. |

That's neat that he's average weight for his height and age. But he's still tiny by NHL standards. Not many guys his size thrive in a top 6 role. Some do. But most don’t. Berggren has been hurt numerous times in his young career already. But I guess every time he gets hurt we can complain about how hockey is too dirty.

Well Missy...to start let me say that since a lot of these players I'm not sure who they are since they are all rookies/tryouts but the barking by you and the author failed to say how blues#63 (Neighbors??) was checked in the head along the end boards by a wing prospect. Also the trip of a blues defender, twice, on the same play by a wings player wasn't called and those type of happenings can only increase the frustration by the players. Since you seem to know that people have "opinions" maybe if you actually watched the game you could infer the counterpoint. But maybe that's asking too much from you. Maybe Jeremy isn't cutout for this blogger gig. |
