These late starts might be Blashill’s bus ticket out of town some time in December. - Goalie Dad
I hope you’re right. We’ve seen it too many times. I know some teams have crazy rituals to get them going. That was just brutal |

This has been happening for far to many years. I can still remember Babcock talking about late starts. In fact I think Blashill uses some off the material in his post game pressers. |

Oh, come on, man! Give the team a break! EVERYBODY gets depressed when they have to go to Buffalo! It takes a while to get out of their funk! |

Late starts are still a problem but so is their defensive system in their own zone. They fixed not using that stupid drop pass every time on the PP which makes me happy but their collapsing no pressure defensive system irritates me to no end.
Why any coach would think that is a good idea to let their opponents skate around and pass freely around your own zone and be late to the boards for loose pucks is beyond me. Play man to man and keep tight coverage on the other teams defensemen and forwards so they have no time to make plays.
Looked like they were changing the defense pairings multiple times per period. I wish they would have made lots of cuts earlier after their 3 games in 3 days and gone closer to what they had today to try and get them in sync more. Passing was all over the place today and didn't see a lot of chemistry on any line, defense pairing or with the goalie. It looked like none of them knew where anybody was on the ice or what they were going to do with the puck. |

I have to say I always wonder what Stevie sees in his coach. I think it is pathetic! I said the same thing about Hakstoll 18 months before they finally fired him in Philly. Hope it all works out for the Wings but watching this game tonight was unbearable, Ned should stick to goaltending and not the 7th D, lol. I know it was a pre season game but pretty sad when they make the worst team in the league look good. |

I think it’s time to consider Fabbri not a top 6 winger. He has trade bait all over him at the deadline. Could very well see that the path forward for Veleno being an everyday player then. Just have to hope he can stay healthy, which I strongly strongly doubt. |

Careful. Some people lose their poop if you suggest trading Fabbri. |

Didn’t see the game, glad I didn’t hearing/reading about it!
The Wings for decades seem to have issues with afternoon games. Even when they had a great lineup, afternoon games always seemed to be a struggle. Hopefully there were some lessons learned yesterday.
I agree about Blash......gotta wonder if Stevie is just bidding his time— knowing they are no where near playoffs/contenders- not addressing it yet, in hopes of a better draft pick?? I would hope at this point, he is on a very short, tight leash |

I don't want the Wings to be the team to pay him $5m a year on his potential. |

I don’t think anyone is giving an injury prone middle 6 guy much term or money. |

Jacob MacDonald (LD) from Colorado would be the waiver pickup that intrigues me the most. Yes he's old (28) and yes he has hardly any NHL experience and yes he played for an awesome team last year, but he looked very good in the minutes he got (and has been an elite AHL defender for several years before that) and I think would be worth taking a low-risk chance on.
I'd rather have him as a third pair / depth option than Oesterle, at the very least. |

I wonder if picking up Hamonic would work better for the Wings and then flipping Stecher to Vancouver for a 2nd. Hamonic might play if he can stay unvaxed in the US. I know he can't travel to Canada, but that is only 9 games. It might work.( He also gives the team a bit more grit! ) |

Meh I still think a potential Marchessault/Verhaeghe finding is more intriguing than Toledo Walleye legend Jacob MacDonald. |

I hear you. I would agree that Barre-Boulet has the most upside of any player on the waiver wire today. But I would also say it's unlikely that any of these players will ever be especially good (or they wouldn't be on waivers) and MacDonald is arguably more likely to be an immediate roster upgrade. Because our LD situation is a horror show.

I agree with you on LD as well it just makes less sense with them reupping on Staal and bringing in Leddy and Oesterle. They’re in a position where it’s a bad look to waive any of Staal, Oesterle, or Lindstrom. |
