Team is actually fun to watch, been a long time since you could say that. Long way to go to go and there will be struggles this season but Yzermans fingerprints are starting to show on this team. |

Really enjoying more moments than I can remember. Still wish they’d replay Seider’s spinning keep in at the blue line. That play was unreal. Just love energy and the entire team cares about what’s going on |

Not a fan of Lindholm. He cross checked Helm repeatedly with the last one to the head that caused Helm to skate to the bench and sit out a few shifts. Yeah, no call. |

Good blog Jeremy. From a Flames perspective this game could get real ugly, the Wings are playing some pretty damn good hockey right now. |

Yeah, but Flames have had such a broken start. Only 2 games played and a huge trip from West coast to Midwest. Team hasn’t had time to click yet |

Barre-boulet back on waivers. Unfortunately TBL gets first crack. Seattle just all over the map - Jeremy Laura
I believe this is false, actually.
The only benefit the CBA gives to Tampa in this scenario is that, if they are the only team to put in a claim, then they can send him straight to the minors without re-waiving him.
They do not get to move up in the waiver priority list, and any team can still put in a claim. |

I’ll double check, but when he was picked up one of the releases said that TB would have first refusal if he hit waivers again. Glad to be wrong if that’s not the case |

Per Michael Derosa:
Tampa Bay has first priority since the Kraken originally claimed him from them. If they shockingly decide not to take him back, expect a rebuilding club to scoop him immediately.

OK, so I have 2 Flames that impress me: Zadorov, and Markstrom.
Zadorov can be a very imposing D-man, imposing his will on those he goes against. When he's on, he's really good. Physical, great eye-hand coordination, runs the PP well, solid PK guy.
Markstrom can be an amazing goalie. Again, when he's hot, he's really good. Amazing agility for such a big dude.
Tkachuk is like acne; always shows up when you don't want him to, and destroys your outlook on life when he does.....borderline filthy player. Need to keep Smith away form him, but we need to be ready to play with a level of physicality that we've not had... as a preventative measure. Really, though he does what he does just to take the opposing team's #1 guys off the ice. Need to be wary after the start of the season for us; don't be baited into retaliating or reacting...or being too proactive. |

Agreed on Smith. I appreciate he’s working for a spot, but refs are all focused on him now |

Had an awesome few days of sports lined up. Was going to the Wings game tonight, the UM hockey game tomorrow night, and the UM football game on Saturday, but as luck would have it, I got the Rona. The wife had it and was/is in pretty rough shape, but she was isolated in our house, wore a mask when she had to come out of our room and we continuously sanitized everything. We did the mandatory quarantine then the kids and I got tested. My kids were negative but I'm positive, so the cycle starts over again, right on the day before we were to be freed. Fortunately I'm asymptomatic and actually feel awesome, but now I'm stuck here for at least 10 more days.
So now I'll miss a Wings game, two UM football games, THREE UM hockey games including Halloween at Yost and two UM volleyball games. I know...I have a lot of UM season tix, some going back to when I was a student but it's our family thing. I guess I'll be doing something I never really do and that's watch a lot of TV. |

DeRosa is not an authoritative source. He is a blogger on a rumor website. And I am virtually certain that he is wrong.
Here is a much more authoritative source:
https://twitter.com/CapFr...tatus/1348344569386192898
The actual CBA says nothing about original teams getting priority. It does have a section about players who are waived twice in a season (13.22), and this is what it says:
13.22 When a Club claims a Player on Regular or Unconditional Waivers, and, subsequently, in the same season it requests Waivers on the same Player and the original owning Club is the successful and only Club making a Waiver claim, then the original owning Club shall be entitled to Loan such Player to a club in another league within thirty days without further Waivers being asked; provided that such Player has not participated in ten or more NHL Games (cumulative) and remained on an NHL roster more than thirty days (cumulative) following such successful claim.
The lesson, as always: be careful about trusting what you read on strange websites. Even the big guys get it wrong sometimes. (I once emailed Ansar Khan after he kept screwing up the rule about cap hits for buried players back when the Wings had Colaiacovo.) Best practice is always to look up the CBA itself. |

I appreciate the work you’re putting in, why not reach out to DeRosa to be sure. The site he works for gets a lot of solid information. I do believe TB will have first crack, but again, if I end up being wrong I’m fine with that |

Exactly. I saw Erne get a little ruffled the other night, someone else needs to take a more physical role than Smith. He'll be sin-sinned quicker than snot, then we'll be up the proverbial creek short-handed. The Flames will be out for blood tonight and probably think that likely targets are Raymond, Larkin, Suter...take those guys out and the fire-power's gone. Mo Sides needs to get a little nasty, or at least be prepared to get a little nasty. This is going to be a VERY physical game....I think of we lean on quick out-let passes, shutting down passing lanes, and speed, we can overcome the rough stuff.

I still challenge that you should reach out to MDR and see where his information came from. I’d heard the same information (different source) when the player was picked up. It’s worth digging, for sure |

I’ve reached out to the NHL to try and clarify. If I get an answer I’ll let you know as soon as I can |

Thanks.
I think this is a very common misconception. Just like the misconception that putting in a waiver claim on one player drops a team to the back of the priority list for future players. It's not true, but many many many many people believe that it is, and so the misconception continues to circulate.
Pro tip: the CBA can be downloaded directly from the NHLPA's website. Always best to go straight to the primary source if there's any confusion about a rule. |

The rules around waiver claims have changed over time. You used to drop to last if you made a claim, but that changed in the last CBA, I believe.

The "drop to last" rule is not in the 2005-2011 CBA either. It might have been in the 1995-2004 CBA; I don't remember and I can't find a copy.

Zadorov is nothing special, he can deliver big hits but he is a liability to expose odd man rushes. |
