Flames played the perfect road game.
Was very impressed with Raymond. Kids got real talent, and lots of game, easily your best forward tonight. Hold onto him.

Don't think Smith landed any shots on Looch, he threw some but they didn't seem to land. You're right a young Lucic would have taken that final opportunity and tagged him when he was down. Turning point?

Markstrom needed that game tonight, he's been good but not great this year, hopefully he can keep it up as Sutter likes a #1 goalie.

Tanguay was getting a lot of praise in the preseason but the powerplay is terrible and the 1st units alignment is insanely bad.

Why is there no "puke" emoji?!?!?!?!?!

Last night was the last several years all rolled up into 1 game. Blender lines, missed passes, too many passes to get the perfect shot, overpowered by the puck, overpowered by the opponent, overpowered by ourselves, lack of continuity.....stop me if you've heard ANY of this before.

I understand that lines need to be juggled sometimes (injuries, crappy performance, etc...), but there was very little need of that in the first 2 periods. No clue why that happened. Smith isn't getting the job done. At this point I wonder if Witko would fare any better (same physicality, better O performance)? Give Looch props, he couldda destroyed Smith, but valor is the better part of old age, I reckon. He pulled up when Smith went down. I never had a problem with Looch, at least not too much. Tkachuk took some cheap shots as usual, but Smith was on notice (and has been...) so after he threw hands w/Looch he couldn't get after Tkachuk, so TK ran with what he normally does unabated.

In the pre-game, I said that Markstrom was one of the Calgary guys I watched out for (Zadorov was a scratch, but he always seems to have good games v DRW). I thought maybe Greiss was pissed about not playing so he knocked Mark out, took his kit, and played against us. Stellar performance. He has an incredible record v DRW, so I wasn't surprised in the least.

Regroup for Les Habitants Saturday night. Going to be another feisty game. Montreal will be out for blood. Their season has been for crap, so they've got a mega-chip on their shoulders. The good thing is Montreal doesn't have the fighters that Calgary does (there's not Looch or Tkachuk....), saw Kotko scored for The 'Canes v Montreal, that oughta sit well with Bergevin.....They're going to be really irate Saturday night.

Spot-on analysis. Y'all were just better. Full stop. Mark was stellar. Looch....that guy wouldda destroyed Smith back in the day.

When they FINNALLY get set up in the zone, they have some good zone time. But that was not apparent last night.

Markstrom was hot, but with hot goalies try shooting low and crashing the net!

Having your only RH shot on a PP on the right wall is insanity.

Why all of the line changes?
Why so much Smith?
Did Leddy play more with Hronek?
Why, why, why make changes when the team was off to a decent start, maybe lose a game before changing Up line combos. Blashill panic moves!

For the first 2 games, I wholly agree. Last night seemed like they were never settled in the o-zone on the PP long enough to get their system rolling. Credit the Calgary PK; they took away passing lanes, cleared the puck quickly, were aggressive on attacking players with the puck. They were hot last night. This shows that there's still some work to do, but we all knew that anyway.

When you aren’t scoring or generating much you shake things up. It’s not rocket surgery.

Smith needs to stay in the lineup because the Wings don't have anybody else that can scrap worth a damn. Smith is no Probert/Kocur...hell no McCarty either but at least he is willing and can hold his own. You don't want Larkin or Bertuzzi doing it since they need to be on the ice and you can't risk losing them to a fight injury.

Seider was easily the Wings best defenseman against the Flames. Was his best game so far i would say. He was not perfect but his passing was better than any of the other defensemen and he played great defensively. He is fast becoming the Wings best defenseman (if he isn't already). Not liking DeKeyser or Staal much so far (DeKeyser worst than Staal). One or both could sit to give Stetcher and Oesterle a try.

I do kind of feel bad for Ned. Like Greiss last season, he is getting hung out to dry with little support when he plays. He does need to calm down when he leaves the crease to play the puck though. He seems to have much more mis-communications with the defense than he should...but i guess he is still trying to get to know the players and them know him. Hopefully it gets better for him as the season goes on.

Haven't watched the Wings in a long time but I agree this guy needs to stay. He's willing to stick up for his teammates, and every team needs that. Thought he played a decent game for the amount of ice time he gets.
