Im hoping this was a harsh lesson for Miller about his stick use, positioning and body play. He showed a lack of confidence in his ability to take on high level skaters, Avs saw it and danced circles around him.

I felt the Rangers had a good feel for the game with the last 10 minutes of the 1st period and closed it out relatively well, forcing the pace to slow down. Whatever adjustments and game planning the Avs made in that first intermission was excellent as they definitely exposed some holes in the Rangers that made them play a collapse defensive game the rest of the way through.

The Rangers absolutely need to get better defending and entering the middle of the ice. The Avs were skating through the defense and entering the zone like a large bore sieve. Meanwhile the Rangers were constantly met and disrupted between the red and blue lines trying to enter their zone. Even on the PP with a man advantage were still playing dump and chase hockey which will forever baffle me.

Agree with all of this. They back up too much in their own zone giving the forwards too much time and room

Might be wise to also just acknowledge the Avs are a pretty good club that is on a serious roll.

It's impossible to find any silver lining from last night but, as stupid as this is, if you slice out the 2nd period, we won 3-2. it's just that 2nd period was a complete disaster.
We just need to turn the page and move on.

At least we have Buffalo tomorrow, and not one of the other top teams

This game wasnt on Huska, but Shesty, George, or even Kinkaid save 3 of those goals last night. Huska is the 4th string goalie. What did Gallant expect

Call it luck, hot start, scheduling but according to 538, the Rangers have a 93% chance to make the playoffs.

maybe he read the teams readiness? Georgies confidence is fragile and we are going to need him going forward. Huska was the sacrificial lamb so to speak.

They need to address an actual back up by the deadline and potential 3c that wins FO

i think the loss (and the way we lost) bothers me so much because, while we've been playing really really well before this game, the coverage we were getting was mostly around how good we actually were. Then we play the darlings of the nhl media and get roasted

i'm not saying it's correct or even meaningful, just the optics of it from the media's perspective. would've been nice to put up a fight if not win outright

They gave up 5 to Philly. If the Rangers convert on that 2-0 and Chytl score its a different game. Kuemper wasnt great just competent. Huska was bad.

It goes both ways- I am sure this game was much bigger for us Fans than the actual team as we want to see where we stand and they believe more than likely that they are very good - just sayin

Dallas has been on a roll, but I think trading for Pavelski could be an excellent playoff move for us. If theyre looking like they might be out, its a move worth pursuing. He would line up to take the draws between Panarin and Strome, but play on the RW with them. Him and Strome would essentially be a fluid pair cycling between C and RW. Could be interesting to see.

My ideal 3C here would be Jeff Carter, but theres no way we get him without overpaying. Pens need him as much as we do. I would attempt is maybe doing a swap of Chytil and Hayton with Arizona for our 3C. Chytil may have the pro years, but Hayton seems like he could be a better fit here.

Lastly, Id like to maybe try to pull Halak away from VAN as our back up. A veteran like him, with his experience could be priceless for us in the playoffs.

I have been saying Pavelski for about 2 months now. I think it would be the ideal get.

Best news about the game last night, that goal seemed to give Nils some jump and confidence. If he can carry that going forward we may look back at that 7-3 loss as a great game for us

Weve all been clamoring about how Nils has been improperly used on the PP and that he needs to get into and set up in Ovi's office. It was his bread and butter in Sweden.
