Nice game by the visitors last night. Maybe the Hawks can go on a little win streak and inflate the value of some of the suspected trade candidates. |

Galvas seem poise out there last night, hopefully he gets a few more games? I keep hoping a few of these young D step up! |

Good game last night. Maybe bringing King up to coach this team was a smart move. As the young guys step into the lineup, the trust between player and King might make the transition easier for the player.
Does San Jose have to pay a cap penalty for terminating E Kane's contract? Capfriendly.com does not show anything.

A nice win last night when a couple of the team's mainstays were not available. Some good play and some not so good.
Hopefully Galvas fairs better on the Hawks then Jan Rutta or Michal Kempný
I'm trying to temper any optimism by realizing they were playing a team that had only 2 more wins then they did.
Kinda like last year. Playing ok against teams at their level, beating teams they should beat and for the most part getting the snot beat out of them by the better teams.

Good games by #76 and #23. There’s lots to like about Kurashev’s game, he’s not a finished product but he’s proven to be a quality depth forward. |

Keep Galvas here. He is ready and will prove better than other third pair candidates
Perhaps Davidson and or King should tell Mitchell that gets sent down because.Galvas plays a better, simple effective game. Stop trying often making stretch passes too.
The sooner Galvas.and a repurposed Mitchell show they can be effective NHL, the stronger the case to move Murphy.
I remain bent on trying to move up In the '22 or '23 draft to pick a center.
Our best way could be Fluery, Murphy together and our #2 for mid but not too late #1..Then offer this #1 plus the '23 #1 for an earliest #1 in '22 or '23. I see no other way to add a future #1 center
And btw no one wants to answer why Toews would interest any team insofar as a trade. For what? A third round pick whom is not goingbto likely turn unto a top prospect? Why would a team want a broken down older center whose health is a question mark while his expensive contract is still being paid. Let Toews retire as a Career Blachawk.
I don't believe Davidson can get a top center prospect or a high ( early) enough first round fot Kane. Let Kane retire also as a career Blackhawk |

Nope. The Sharks argument is that E. Kane was in breach of his contract. The NHLPA has filed a grievance so we'll see where that goes.
This is similar to the LA Kings and Mike Richards. I'm pretty sure the Kings were not on the hook for any of his salary but did send him a little walking around money when the NHLPA filed a grievance on Richards' behalf. |

Galvas had a nice debut. Similar to Kalynuk.
Borgstrum continues to play well.
Nice to see Strome rev his motor a little more often. He is slow. But if he keeps his motor going he gets to where he needs to be and makes hockey plays. Better on faceoffs too. He is an enigma. I would be ok with signing him for a couple years at his same salary. He is still 24. But also ok with trading him for 2nd or 3rd round pick.
Connolly not terrible on 3rd or 4th line. Has some offensive skills.
Hope that Hagel is back soon.
Interested in seeing Lafferty also. |

Build a solid team this year and next incorporating/developing young players and managing the cap. Then you will have cap room to add a #1c after Toews and Kane contracts expire. |

Hawks have the Canadiens Thursday night who will be playing the 2nd game of a back-to-back. So that may be a win for the good guys, but you never know with this team. Then a home game Saturday versus a surprisingly good Anaheim team, then a 1 game road trip out to Seattle. No guaranteed victories there (remember the egg layed in Arizona last week), but surely possible.
Dehaan played a half way decent game. Maybe if he strings a few more together his trade value will increase from a 5th round pick to a 4th.

So in Bovquist's 20 minutes, did he really do anything that makes you say, wow what a mistake trading him? I know it is just one game, but every time he scores a goal, the Jones haters on the BOD sure want to point out that game. I am not saying he is bad, but I did not see any inkling of a 28 minute a night # 1 defenseman.
Even if the Hawks do not shake up their defense next year (except for losing daHaan, and not signing Gusto, it looks to me like
Stillman-S. Jones
McCabe-Murphy
C.Jones-Galvas/Mitchell/Kalnyuk
Beaudin/Regula/Phillips/Allen/Crevier at the rock
Maybe Kaiser/Vlasic signed as ELC's
My glass half-full (which it rarely is) says this is about as good a position the Hawks have been in on the back-end in years.

I'm sure it's going to cost them financially and against the cap

Boqvist is a very fluid skater, knows where to be in the O-zone and how to get there and has a very quick shot. That said, he tends to get mesmerized a bit in the D-zone and is pretty one-dimensional. He can be a point producer from the back end (which is needed), but overall, I agree with your assessment.

Back end could be settled as you say. Now all they need is a proven goalie and a few stud top 6 forwards.

On record as not being a Boqvist guy from before they even drafted him. To me he was a low floor 50 pt ceiling defensive liability who will always need to be sheltered. Remember though before his draft yr he was talked about as a top 5 pick by most prognosticators then had a poor season his draft yr.
Is this the first time you saw the Svede in a full game this yr, LA? You would admit he's much better this yr in the eye test? Bigger, thicker, less panicky, some poise and confidence, the game has slowed down for him? ....... Amazing what proper slotting/placement/system/expectations/usage can do for an NHL player let alone a developing prospect.
CLB has positioned him to succeed CHI to fail. This must stop if the Hawks will ever be a threat especially without a 1st rd pick this yr.
Boqvist is shooting 24%, his secondary assist percentage is a crazy 85% (McDavid type superstar number), 63% Ozone start, 17:00 TOI putting him on a 48 point pace. Those sheltered numbers are way unsustainable but he has a solid 51.7 CF% and a 51.7 xGF% at 5 on 5, again proper slotting and usage.
Assuming he stays healthy and CLB continues to slot and use him him properly he looks to reach his probable ceiling of being a sheltered defensive liability that hits 50ish pts. A useful player but the kind I'd rather pass on for a Dobson type. ........
A matter of preference but besides this kid was poorly developed and as a 7th overall should have, no, would have, brought more back in a trade had he been properly developed. |

Not the first, but usually only watch Blue Jacket games for periods of times. He is bigger, thicker. I guess reading his amateur scouting reports, he is an agile skater, but I was expecting more explosiveness.
The way he is slotted is probably proper, but he is not the second coming of Eric Karlsson, which I thought was supposed to be his comparable

I was intrigued by Galvas' game last night and he looked bigger than his stated size (5' 11" 161 lb). Is that recorded correctly? If it is, how does he survive against aggressive heavy hitting teams? |

The way King has been using Borgstrom, the way he used Galvas, the way he's getting Strome to move his feet, Stillman/Slavin/Kurashev/Entwhistle it seems to me he's for the most part using/slotting these players properly allowing them to develop and or play towards their ceiling. That along with the near total disappearance of the clown show we saw regularly and getting a roster of bottom 6 players to play .500 hockey has me wondering.
Is King a guy you sign for maybe 2 yrs to continue what he's done, especially develop prospects, and in 3 yrs or so bring in an NHL coach who can get them from point B to point F when the roster is more talented? |

I think the reason the union got involved is what the Sharks did is not allowed by the CBA

I would think Slava Voynov's contract termination would be comparible, the Kings got cap relief for that.

Keeps his head up and moves his feet and the puck quickly. And if this fails he has to roll off hits. |
