I wouldn't say big on analytics. More like he knows about analytics. He was also a scout. Nobody said how good of a scout he is. But yeah. It's worth being excited. The Ducks were in limbo without a GM. This move is going to get things going again.
As far as Verbeek. It's seems like a good move. No matter how much he uses analytics, he should know what matters most. That's winning. To many analytics GMs experimenting on there teams tring to prove that math can work in a hockey rink. Those GMs deserved to lose and be fired. If there was one thing I would say to Verbeek right now. It'd be this. "Keep your eye on the prize". All the experiments are for the mathematicians to figure out.

This looks like a great hire for the Ducks considering the Little Ball of Hate's pedigree. If he can tap that Red Wings' Swedish scouting network, watch out.

Looks like a good hire, as long as he doesn't have to do a lot of Zoom press conferences. Not a real polished media guy, but the guy knows hockey and has been around winners for most of his career. Looking at the various roles he filled for Yzerman in Tampa and Detroit, he has the resume.

I like that the Ducks went outside the organization. There are some hard decisions coming about who to keep, who not to keep, who might be tradeable, and what the actual value of current roster players is. The Ducks are at a good point in their rebuild to bring in someone without the sentimental attachments to the current roster to lead those decisions.

Good point. Sentimental attachments are bad. But your never gonna eliminate emotions from analysis. Even analytics has crazy people way to emotionally attached. The best way so far seems to have multiple people give different opinions. That way if one person is to attached then the others can check them.
