Most likely the AHL veteran rule, but frankly I'd have put one of the veterans that doesn't have much of a chance at the NHL on waivers instead. Not a huge deal, but he played well for us. |

Watching Olympic Men's Hockey, Czechia vs. Denmark..... Olympic rules allow penalty shots to be taken by anyone on the team, not just the player fouled. So a Czech player fouls a short-handed Danish player on a breakaway and a penalty shot is called. Who takes the shot for the Danes? None other than Frans Nielsen who proceeds to utilize his signature move that we all loved. Smooth as silk, and the Czech goalie is still looking for his jock. |

Of course, I didn't even need to see a replay to know what he did
That was his bread-and-butter in the shootouts for so long, with the occasional quick snapper every once and awhile to keep goalies on their toes |

The funny thing was that he rarely scored on those quick snappers. So everyone in the arena knew that the backhand was coming, including the goalie, and he still nailed it. |

I feel like he did occasionally, but it's hard to remember at this point. It's almost like he had to do it though, even if he missed. If he tried to go backhand shelf 100% of the time the goalies would've just started cheating to beat him |

Ironically, he had a breakaway late in the third period, went to the quick snapper and missed. Denmark ended up winning 2-1 anyway. |

Which is why he should have stuck with backhand shelf... |

Czechoslovakia split in 1993. Should have stayed together for their hockey team. Yes, I know that Czech Republic won the gold in 1998. |

Yea it's been all downhill since then, pretty much at every level. Their WJC teams aren't very good, WC, Olympics...all of it stinks |

Sounds like some of the vets might not keep getting that long leash in the 2nd half |

I guess I'm not surprised. The Olympics typically omit those terrible fringe-2nd division teams, unless they're hosting. Really Germany and Switzerland are the only two regular/semi-regular Olympic teams that they have a true shot at beating, and both are better than the Danes. |

THIS makes me happy. Let's see if he actually holds them accountable. I think it's warranted with at least a couple forwards. |

I'm not surprised either. Denmark is historically not a big hockey country. I think Frans Nielsen was the first Danish player to play in the NHL. |

I believe you are correct on that one. Well good for them, I hope they enjoy it until they get curb-stomped by the Russian's on Friday |

Trotz should be fired immediately for thinking this way. |
