Carol Schram: The confident Canucks head East for 4 games after snuffing the Flames After the Vancouver Canucks put an emphatic end to the Calgary Flames' 10-game winning streak, the group heads east for a four-game road trip that kicks off Sunday against the New York Rangers.

Canucks gave up a first and a third for Miller after he had a 13 Goal 47 point season. He could get close to 80 pts this year so trading for a first and a third with a new staff and an old GM with a terrible track record of drafting makes no sense at all.

Being at that game and watching live against Calgary you could see that Miller was really the best player on the ice for both sides (goalies excluded) . I don't see the point of trading him . I think we should be building around him instead.

Miller is on pace for about 92 pts this year. That's 3-4 1sts in value at a minimum.

Thanks Carol, heard an interesting stat the other day. I haven’t fact checked it, but it went something like: JT Miller has four or five more 5v5 points in the current two seasons than Nils Höglander (that’s 2020-2021 & 2021-2022).

That would kind of bust the “he’s a 5v5 machine narrative…

To put players lives into commodity terms, trading Miller for the same thing you paid for him three years ago would be like buying a stock for $1 each and selling it three years later for $1 each. Even Don knows that’s not good business. Unless of course the utility you’ve received in that time outweighs the price you get. Like, if the number of wins the team had were so high that team revenues were way up…

I agree the refs favoured the Canucks in that last game, it wasn’t even close. Oh well maybe next time it will go the other way.
Another good read!

Also @Vantel, something you said from the game the other night really stuck, and is something I’ve been thinking but haven’t said out loud.

Watching on TV doesn’t give you the whole picture. Your comment was about Boeser being better than you perhaps thought I think. It’s probably the same for guys who we (I) complain about too, like Myers. I think generally speaking, the guys are all better than the whiners think and not as good as the slurpers think.

Damn, EDM gets the win in FLA, Kosky with the W. That hurts, should have been guarantee L with the way the cats play at home.

I think you keep Miller now - he's to good. See next year if he will sign a decent $ contract (he's gunna get paid). But if its around EP or QH $ I think you do it for 5 years.

If he wants 9-10M+ then you trade him next year (or if hes saying thats what he wants now)

I am definitely going to try to get to more games for a few reasons , that what you mentioned being one of them .

One thing you said to me the other night that stood out was what about the games that people attend that are real stinkers. It made me think of the Vancouver Grizzlies and when I use to go to their games. I never expected them to win but the overall production was worth the money spent.

I thought the same thing about the production the Canucks put on . The entire night was worth the money even if they lost . The videos , the lighting , the graphics and the fan participation was fantastic. Bruce there it is , is worth the cost of the ticket lol.

One thing I did notice also was the fans . It was nothing like social media , main stream media , or here . It seemed like everyone was happy.

Well said K-Men when you get blown out by 6 it's the refs for sure!!

Maybe have your boys check the replays while you are sucking it.

I’ve always enjoyed games, win or lose, except for the (playoff) game against Chicago in 2010. Just back in Canada, took my wife for her first NHL (and Canuck) game, and they got beat down. Plus it was like $600 for the two tickets!

But yeah, glad they are taking entertainment a little more seriously. I think Vegas raised the bar for the entire league as to what is not only possible, but expected now.

He's easily worth that now, especially with his contract being so cheap for another year.

Keeping JTM has its perks and downsides, trading him has its perks and downsides. Letting him walk into UFA is just all downside.

If they keep winning between now and the TDL, I think they've earned the right to see this season out. It's been a tough go the past couple years, so kicking them in the nuts right now isn't a positive step to building a winning atmosphere.

Agreed with the "entertainment" vibe that stadiums have now. However, I went out to an Islanders game when they were still out on Long Island like 7 years ago. There's something to be said about the atmosphere of a smaller, old-school rink where there's one level for everything and you can see the ice from the concession. Think that's something more for hockey purists and not the everyday fan, mind you. Tinge of nostalgia?

Agreed. Finally feels like they are trending up again. Moving Miller would really deflate that. Still have next year (even if they get a bit less)

I felt this watching the canucks years ago on Long Island. The history of the building + the dynasty and everything was super cool

It is a really fun evening regardless of the game . Technology has come a really long way.

Another thing I noticed was Canucks had a female PA announcer who did an excellent job. Her voice had excitement and lifted the crowd even on Canucks penalties. It was not only a voice but the cameras zeroed in on her a few times .

I can honestly see why Aquilini sits in his office and doesn't give a flying fuk about most things because at the games he is raking in money hand over fist and that is what he mostly cares about.

They can find out after the season and if not willing to re-sign, then trade him at the draft or anytime during the summer.
