Bill Meltzer: Flyers Gameday: 3/3/22 vs. MIN; Phantoms Update

Luckily for the wild they are playing Philly so they will end that 4 game losing skid they're on. Also maybe bill G can have a closer look at giroux and whatever other trade pieces they may want for their playoff run this year

All this talk for days that Flyers should play Frost with their best players as if he is owed something. Obviously there is something or things in his game that are not endearing himself to the organization. Watched Rangers game last night and Rags didnt give Lafreniere any special treatment and he was a #1 pick and 18 months later he is finally coming into his own. He wasnt given a spot on the first line till few weeks ago after a yr and a half on their 3rd line learning the NHL game and earning his spot.

Minnesota Wild (under new management) 65 points vs Philadelphia Wild (under old Wild management) 42 points. Maybe the next group should be someone who has actually succeeded somewhere.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Flyers win. The Wild have lost 6 of 7 and are not playing with confidence. Up until recently, they were averaging 4 goals a game. Now that they’re snake bit, they can’t win because they don’t defend well. I expect this game to be a big challenge for the Wild.

Two Round 2 Exits and 4 1st round exits. Much of the current roster were drafted by the old regime. Fletcher had Wild in 2nd place in the division one year


Since then they have missed the playoffs twice and made the playoffs twice if you include this season. With One 1st round exit.

My personal opinion is he needs to play here and on the pp where his hands have shown some promise. However, he did play with good players earlier in the year and looked flat as a sat daily news. He then played on that minor league 3rd line and he looked ok. Not great, but definitely better than when he played with more talent.

They guy seems to have some mental blocks out there w keeping his feet moving and playing with pace in general. He probably needs more time to evolve, but I would imagine the flyers management have their reasons for yoyoing him around. They want him in the nhl. They need him there to succeed especially after the Patrick / Makar debacle.

If he wants to play here the opp is there. He just needs to grab the opp while here.

Good post. The jury is still out on Guerin. This is a rebuild on the fly. The Wild were expected to be a bubble team and it looks like they could fall that far. They are making progress and I like their draft picks. But Guerin will be judged by his post season performance and he’s handicapped himself with the buyouts.

Minnesota will be paying in dead cap space 12 million next year and 14 million in the 2 years after that for Suter and Parise. Not sure how far they will get with that much dead cap space.

The buyouts were necessary for the expansion draft. It was the same situation Fletcher was in back with the Wild as well just different paths taken by the two, Fletcher paid to have Vegas take Haula to protect an unprotected Dumba. Guerin used the buyout to protect Dumba as well.

What I said is completely accurate. Today they are in 3rd place in the division. They aren’t a wild card. Tomorrow or next week they may be. No one predicted them to run away with the division. Most had them 3-5 in the division.

He did not record a point on this night, but it wasn't for lack of scoring chances.

Isn't this a familiar theme with most Flyers players, plenty of chances, very few conversions? Its great to hear Frost is starting to do at the AHL level what he needs to do at the NHL level, but it underscores the biggest need for this organization, to get some top end talent in here that can actually finish a play!

I absolutely supported the buyouts. Sometimes you have no good options. I supported the buyouts more for the significant skill deterioration in both players and their toxic presence in the room.

Minnesota is slumping? The Flyers should be the cure for that. Looking at their roster, they look like a team that could badly use a guy like Giroux, if he’s willing to go to Minny.

Assuming Dumba is out tonight, Addison is probably a guy to pay attention to. Would likely be a part of the return if Giroux gets dealt there.

Two things. The biggest point is that the Rangers are in contention and they should be putting winning first over the development of young players. The Flyers are in the opposite position. Secondly, every player is different. There is no one set way for player development. Each player should be evaluated for what the best situation is for that player in combination with the teams position.
