Mikko Koskinen was chased from his net last night after allowing five goals on 12 shots. Good for a .583 save percentage. While many of those goals were borderline unsavable, a .583 save percentage is unacceptable.

Save percentage is a useless stat on a game by game basis. Like you said, most of the goals were unsavable. If the Oilers had Sheskerkin in net last night, maybe the Flames only win 7-5.

It's easy to blame goalies for games like that, but goaltending wasn't the problem at all last night. The problem for the Oilers was they constantly let the Flames get the puck to players who were wide open in perfect shooting positions. How many goals were perfect top corner snipes? Every goalie in the league gives that to the shooter.

Thanks Trevor another great read. Your consistency is much appreciated.

I missed the 1st but was excited and vocal at my tv for the other 2 periods. Would have liked to see a couple of scraps to top off the night but only a few wrestling matches. When I look at the Oilers roster I see Nurse, Kassian, Kane and Smith as the willing combatants. Nurse and Smitty tried to tag team Chucky at one point, I can’t believe the refs evened up the penalties on that one. Other than that double K’s we’re invisible.
I think you need to mention how Gudbranson played McDavid when he got the chance, finally Sutter has someone who gets it.
Oilers scored 3 on the powerplay, 1 with a 2 man advantage, so 2 even strength goals. Flames 9 even strength goals, where most seemed like wide open shots.
You can blame the Oiler goalies but their D looked like the keystone cops trying to figure out where the puck was.
5 points for McJohnny last night, puck was on a string for him,
Oiler D had no answer to that.
This was a great game to watch but I’m sure Sutter will have a few choice discussions about playing FireWagon Hockey going into the playoffs.

Give Markstrom some more rest down the stretch or he's gonna collapse in the playoffs

I agree, I think we should give Marky some rest and start Vladar more now.

Said this 20 games ago as I've seen this movie before. Sutter needs to back off a bit on Marky and make sure that groin is 100% for PO's. Green rode Marky hard in Van and was out after two series.

Thanks Trevor

Fun game. Really hoping for a battle of Alberta in the playoffs. :thumbs-up:

Good to see Dube is starting to find his groove as well.

Experience riding Quick when they the Cup is likely tainting Sutter's position, that and Markstrom is probably telling Sutter he's good for 82+ games...

Very possible. Just need to think clearly here. The deeper the Flames go in the PO's they'll have other things to deal with other than Markstrom lol

If Marky is healthy he'll give the Flames a chance to win pretty much every night. There will be some gaffe games however but that's normal for most goalies.

Just need him rested a bit before the 1st round.

If you are Sutter, how do you approach the next 17 games? Push hard for the next 10 and then let guys rest? Or just (frank)in Giv'r and let only rest those who are hurt?

Would be nice for some of the farm kids, especially those on expiring contracts that have spent some years in Stockton to get a couple of games in. Phillips and Gawden have been good soldiers.

Can only call up on emergency, I believe.
Last year I think they forced Sutter to play Phillips that 1 game, I hope they give him a extended shot at some point. He’s dominated at every level he’s played at, would hate to see another St Louis deal.

Well that rule sucks balls.

Will be interesting to see if the boys bring their A-game or if they will take their foot off the gas.

Go Flames!

It's just the cap space, which the Flames have none. If they had the room, they could have all 50 players under contract on their active roster after the trade deadline. They could always send Stone down if they wanted to give someone a shot. He's probably not getting claimed.
