Production never tells the whole story...
Is he an incredible player, no doubt, but everyone has different skillsets and how it develops is what matters. I personally think size will make a difference, Jack Hughes as a perfect example. He may be turning out to be the player the Devils wanted, but it's taking him more time. I don't think Bedard will be a 100 point (not even a point per game) player in his rookie year, but he is going to be a hell of a player.
Edge to McDavid.
FYI: Do I want him on the Flyers...YESSSS. Unfortunately next year will be the year the Flyers fake a good enough season to miss the chance to draft him. |

It's Connor McDavid. Not Conor. And Bedard won't even come close. Also, what does this sentence mean?
he follows the Auston Matthews path off going pro for a year in Europe top push himself |

Means he won't be in his path or a bottom.

How about some more crowdsourcing Ek. Can you poll all the Russian players in your contact list and see how many of them are planning on returning to mother Russia this off season? |

I'll say Bedard won't be as good as McDavid.
Size will be the key; being tall gives a player advantages in reaching for the puck. Two players with the same speed and the taller guy has an advantage because he can reach further.
Prove it- while it isn't likely to happen with Bedard but other phenoms and first round picks haven't thrived in the NHL and some only start to excel after 2-3 years. We know what McD has done and he started out in his first year.
Superstars vs elite players-once you make the NHL you have a depth chart that you have to work your way up. Players such as McD, Matthews,MacKinnon, Crosby and Price (in his prime) are elite players. But guys like Marchand, Marner and Gudreau are superstars but they aren't elite. Bedard has to become a superstar before he can become elite like McD.

Also, if you remembered, Matthews had to wait until he was 18 to play in Europe. |

I agree, he already is. Being tall as stated before has very little to do with it in my opinion. Bedard has all the makings of being better than McDavid although where he ends up say on a perennial bottom feeder will make things tougher on him. If I was a GM somewhere in the middle of the pack I would throw the kitchen sink at the bottom feeder to acquire Bedard.

There is a probability that there is definitely a possibility that that could happen. |

Mcdavid will take the prize because of his speed and size, and the fact that he has an elite running mate in Draistl.
Bedard is more comparable to a small Matthews, with an elite shot that will likely tally up more goals than Mcdavid. But I dont know that he will put up more points than Mcdavid when all is said and done.
Moot point because BOTH will be considered top 20 players to ever play the game, but Mcdavid continues to breather rare air. |
